Breakfield today shares their new single, “Pull Some Strings,” the next offering from the Nashville-raised band’s forthcoming self-titled album, out June 12 via Rounder Records. The optimistic track is about finding solace in music during heartbreak and life’s trying times: “It’s a melody that I hope hits your ears / And pulls you back to being right back here / Like it’s my last song, I’ll play as long as you want.”

“Our whole mindset with this album was just to take the pressure off and have fun,” says vocalist and banjo player Barton Davies. “‘Pull Some Strings’ is all about turning to music to get through a difficult time, and I think that really resonates with us as a band. We’ve been through so much together over the years, and making music has always been there for us when we’ve needed it most. It’s an escape for us. That’s what we hope this song creates for our fans as well.”
“Pull Some Strings” follows the bittersweet “Darker Out Tonight,” the anthemic “Canyon Walls,” and the tender “Ever-Loving Mind,” which have earned acclaim from Ones to Watch, MusicRow, Holler, All Country News, and more. Mixed by multi-Grammy-winner Matt Ross-Spang (Margo Price, John Prine) and produced by The 400 Unit’s Sadler Vaden (Jason Isbell, Beck, Morgan Wade), Breakfield reincarnates the band formerly named Boy Named Banjo as a four-piece that’s fully in tune with their most adventurous instincts. The album harnesses the spirited vitality they’ve showcased at major festivals like Bonnaroo and while headlining historic venues like the Grand Ole Opry.
On Breakfield, the band also reimagines never-released material through the lens of their less-is-more approach. This becomes the perfect backdrop for razor-sharp lyrics about the complexities of relationships, resulting in a body of work that’s both a bold leap forward and a glorious return to the joyful abandon of their earliest days 15 years ago. This is the follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2023 LP Dusk, which garnered praise from American Songwriter, BrooklynVegan, MusicRow, Holler, and Garden & Gun, who said “their sound has evolved and deepened, no longer penned in by just one genre.”
Formed in their teens, Breakfield includes Barton Davies (vocals/banjo), William Reames (guitar/vocals/harmonica), Ford Garrard (bass), and Sam McCullough (drums). Later this month, the band will bring their new music to Nashville, Atlanta, D.C., New York, and more cities, kicking things off on April 18 in Chicago.
