The Voice alum JD Casper has shared his inspired rendition of Post Malone’s hit “Chemical,” the latest single from Pickin’ On Post Malone, out on digital release July 31. Born out of the love of rock music and admiration for the virtuosity of bluegrass musicians, the Pickin’ On Series brings together talented and innovative bluegrass and Americana talent to perform tributes to the biggest and most-loved artists in music – a beloved tradition at CMH Records for over 30 years and 300 albums.
“Chemical” marked the beginning of the famed hitmaker’s transition from hip-hop into more pop-leaning music, and on this release JD Casper takes the song’s acoustic influences a step further with a fiddle-driven instrumental and easygoing vocal delivery.

Known for turning familiar material into driving, acoustic arrangements, JD Casper has carved out a lane that bridges Appalachian tradition with the energy of the Texas live music scene. Whether performing solo or with a full band, he brings an intensity and authenticity that connects across genres. Following “Chemical,” Casper makes two more appearances on Pickin’ On Post Malone, for a cover of the defining 2010s hit “Circles,” as well as his distinct approach towards the chart-topping smash “Sunflower” as album closer.
“Chemical” follows the release of the collection’s first single and accompanying music video, “Sunflower,” as performed by Los Angeles-based bluegrass, old-time, and punk rock band Water Tower. The band reimagined this beloved Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse anthem with banjo, fiddle, mandolin, and raw acoustic soul. Watch the video here.
Pickin’ On Post Malone brings together a new generation of bluegrass and Americana talent to reinterpret the music of Post Malone. Those taking on the singer, songwriter, rapper, and record producer’s plethora of massive hits include Water Tower, Big Richard, JD Casper, The Barefoot Movement, Holler Choir and series stalwarts Iron Horse. Special featured guests MyVerse and Sean Jacobs–who’s opened for Post Malone previously–also lend their talents to a pair of tracks. Each band’s own brand of roots music shines through Post Malone’s earlier atmospheric trap, his more recent down-to-earth country pop, and the songs in-between.
