Nashville-based jam band Cordovas return today with Back to Life, their highly anticipated fifth studio album, out now via Yep Roc Records. The release arrives on the heels of the band’s annual Tropic of Cancer Music & Arts Festival in Todos Santos, Mexico, and marks a defining moment for the band, capturing the spirit, growth, and musical bond that have shaped Cordovas over the past decade.
Rooted in warm harmonies, lived-in grooves, and a sense of hard-won optimism, Back to Life reflects a band fully at ease with who they are. The album balances Cordovas’ deep love of classic American songwriting with their signature cosmic looseness, resulting in songs that feel road-tested, intentional, and emotionally resonant. Themes of renewal—personal, creative, and communal—run throughout the record, delivered with the sincerity and soul the band has become known for.
Much of Back to Life was shaped by the band’s ongoing creative relationship with Todos Santos, Mexico, home to their annual Tropic of Cancer Music & Arts Festival. Over the years, Cordovas have written, rehearsed, and built an artistic community there, and that spirit of collaboration and reflection is woven throughout the album.
Known for their soulful harmonies, poetic songwriting, and expansive improvisation, Cordovas have drawn comparisons to The Band, Grateful Dead, and Crosby, Stills & Nash. With Back to Life, the band sharpens their identity—deeply traditional where it matters, adventurous where it counts, and confident in their own voice.
At the core of Cordovas are songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Joe Firstman and guitarist and vocalist Lucca Soria, whose long-standing musical partnership continues to evolve. That growth is evident across the album. From Mexico to Nashville, the band refined these songs through a balance of relaxed creation and rigorous rehearsal, resulting in a cohesive, focused, and deeply felt record.
Cordovas have built their reputation through relentless touring and acclaimed releases, including That Santa Fe Channel (2018), Destiny Hotel (2020), and The Rose of Aces (2023). With Back to Life, they deliver their most fully realized work to date, continuing to build a sustainable artistic and business foundation that matches their vision.
