Louisiana Red Hot Records is proud to announce the release of Corey and the Treme Funktet: Live at Vaughan’s, a blistering live album recorded during the band’s legendary Thursday night residency at Vaughan’s Lounge. Funk trombone virtuoso Corey Henry—known for his Grammy-winning work both as a solo artist and with the Rebirth Brass Band—leads The Treme Funktet through a high-octane set that fuses New Orleans tradition with hip-hop energy and brass-fueled fire.

On Thursday, May 1, Corey Henry & The Treme Funktet will bring Thursday Night Live to Jazz Fest with a special performance on the Fais Do-Do Stage, followed by their official record release celebration at Vaughan’s Lounge. The live album captures the electric atmosphere of Vaughan’s dimly lit, party-packed room where legends from War to George Clinton’s Parliament have made impromptu appearances.

Critics are already hailing the record as a modern New Orleans classic. Gambit Weekly raves, “Pound for pound, Corey Henry is one of the best musicians in New Orleans,” while American Blues Scene observes, “When Corey Henry & The Treme Funktet unleash their version of ‘Purple Haze,’ it’s more than a cover—it’s a brass-fueled, soul-soaked reimagining that reinterprets Hendrix’s electricity in the language of New Orleans.” The New York Times adds that “with a taut horn section or freewheeling squall, the band’s riffs are all muscle.”

Live at Vaughan’s stays true to Henry’s brass-band roots in Treme and Rebirth, yet pushes the envelope with scorching trombone solos, hip-hop lyrics, and incendiary covers. Featured highlights include a powerhouse take on Jimi Hendrix’s “Purple Haze” featuring June Yamagishi on guitar, and the opening track “Keep That Dream Alive,” where Henry’s trombone solo simmers with freight-train energy.

A devoted philanthropist, Henry was honored with the Spirit of Satchmo Music Award for his work preserving Louis Armstrong’s legacy. This summer he will mentor young musicians at the North Rampart Community Center and headline the inaugural NOLA Footwork Festival on May 31. “Everyone’s welcome to the funkiest party in New Orleans,” Henry invites. “It’s Thursday Night Live down here.”
