Creekbed Carter has released “Icarus Again,” the latest single from his forthcoming album, PEASANTS REVOLT!, out July 24 via Gar Hole Records. This is the third single from the upcoming album and is accompanied by a music video, available today. Carter reimagines the story of Icarus from Greek mythology, using Cajun fiddle and Sunday-style organ to tell of unabashed endurance in the face of challenge.

“‘Icarus Again’ is a song for that moment right before you finally surrender and let go of something you’ve been holding onto for way too long,” Carter explains.
Carter describes the sound as, “Lucinda Williams-style sardonic wit is complemented by Cajun-style fiddle, Sunday-style organ, and the kind of easy movement that's reminiscent of The Jayhawks and Wilco.” He continues, “At the end, moments of self-questioning and vulnerability rebuild momentum and take flight again: you probably won’t fly as high as you want, but ain’t it worth trying again anyway?”
In the music video, created by Carter himself, he sprouts a pair of wings and takes flight. The folksinging Icarus is seen gearing up for surrender while going through the motions of the song. When he starts to fly too close to the sun, and we see the feathers and wax rain down, he comes back in the second act to pick himself up by the bootstraps and give it another shot.
At the end of the world, we still have to live our lives. PEASANTS REVOLT!, produced and engineered by Britton Beisenherz, is a work that turns away from the noteworthy moments of apocalypse, and towards the everyday people who have to live through them. Here’s to having breakdowns on highways in the middle of a false spring. Here’s to queer love blossoming at a factory set on fire by its workers. Here’s to putting the last of your paycheck in the cup of someone who needs it. Here’s to everyone trying, with everything they’ve got, to look their neighbor in the eye and say, “I’m with you.” Whether it’s a 14th-century riot of peasants, a 20th-century miner’s strike, or our modern-day hell, PEASANTS REVOLT! was made to help us sing for our supper so we can reclaim a better world for ourselves.
