Drivin N Cryin’s revved-up new single, “Why Don’t You Go Around,” is out on all streaming services today. It’s the second single from their upcoming album, Crushing Flowers, out April 10. The band enlisted legendary Atlanta tattoo and print artist Dirk Hays for the Ed Roth/gearhead-style cover art for the single.
Frontman Kevn Kinney says that while the song was originally inspired by traffic in his Atlanta home, it came to mean much more.
“‘Why Don’t You Go Around?’ is also a lesson to myself about trying to follow others,” Kinney told Magnet Magazine. “I’ve been influenced before by the success of parallel artists. It took me 20 years to just enjoy the music, style and success without feeling like someone was passing me by. No one is passing you by. But, yeah, that part about Atlanta traffic is just true … Go around!”
Guests on Crushing Flowers include R.E.M.’s Peter Buck and the late Todd Snider, a close friend of frontman Kevn Kinney. Beloved by their peers and fans as a top live act, the trio—Tim Nielsen (bass), Kevn Kinney (guitar/vocals), and Dave V. Johnson (drums)—has toured with the addition of some of rock’s best guitarists over the years, including Warner E. Hodges (Jason & The Scorchers), Peter Stroud (Sheryl Crow), Aaron Lee Tasjan, Sadler Vaden, and Laur Joamets (Sturgill Simpson).
Nearly 40 years in, Drivin N Cryin remains a living, breathing American rock band—not a revival act, not a footnote, but a continuing story still being written. Blending Southern rock grit, folk storytelling, and hard-charging rock & roll, the band built a reputation early on as a must-see live act and a songwriter’s band with depth far beyond trends.
The band will embark on the Crushing Flowers tour this summer and into 2027. For updates, visit: www.drivinncryin.com
