July 10, 2026 — The MGM+ drama series The Westies, co-created by Chris Brancato and Michael Panes, will feature Dropkick Murphys’ song “Dropped on My Head,” which appeared on their October 2025 album, For the People, as the main title theme of the series. Today, Dropkick Murphys released a new music video inspired by The Westies featuring the song ahead of the show’s July 12 premiere date.
Dropkick Murphys’ manager Jeff Castelaz explained, “When the show reached out about us doing the theme song, we actually had an existing song from our latest album where the lyrics perfectly described the environment, the characters, and the story arc of The Westies. When Chris Brancato heard ‘Dropped on My Head,’ he had an immediate reaction, and the deal was done. This happens once in a lifetime in our business… In the case of Dropkick Murphys, it’s the second time: this also happened with Martin Scorsese putting ‘I’m Shipping Up To Boston’ in The Departed 20 years ago.”
Ken Casey, Dropkick Murphys’ vocalist and founder adds, “Rowdy violent music for a rowdy violent show. Seems like a perfect match.”
The Westies is a gritty and kinetic crime drama centering on New York City’s infamously violent Irish gang of the same name. The series is set in the early 1980s when the construction of the Jacob Javits Convention Center on the Westies’ home turf in Hell’s Kitchen promises a financial windfall. Despite being outnumbered fifty-to-one by the Five Families of the Italian Mafia, the Westies’ legendary brutality and cunning have given them the leverage necessary to share the spoils through a fragile détente. But internal conflict between the brash younger generation and the old-school leadership threatens to set a match to this powder keg, which will sweep the Westies into the FBI’s ever-deepening investigation into the Italian mafia. The ensemble cast includes J.K. Simmons, Titus Welliver, Tom Brittney, Stanley Morgan, Sarah Bolger, Jessica Frances Dukes, Hamish Allan-Headley, Vincent Walsh, Allen Leech, and Hillary McCormack.
Dropkick Murphys are: Ken Casey (vocals), Tim Brennan (guitars, tin whistle, accordion, piano, vocals), Jeff DaRosa (guitars, banjo, mandolin, vocals), Matt Kelly (drums, percussion, vocals), James Lynch (guitars, vocals), Kevin Rheault (bass), and Campbell Webster (bagpipes and Uilleann pipes).

Dropkick Murphys proudly remain Boston’s rock ‘n’ roll underdogs turned champions. Since 1996, the boys have created the kind of music that’s meant to be chanted at last call, in packed arenas, and during the fourth quarter, third period, or ninth inning of a comeback rally. Their celebrated discography includes four consecutive Billboard top 10 album debuts, Turn Up That Dial, 11 Short Stories Of Pain & Glory, Signed and Sealed in Blood, and Going Out In Style, along with 2005’s Certified-Gold album The Warrior’s Code featuring the double platinum classic “I’m Shipping Up To Boston.” Whether you caught a legendary gig at The Rathskeller (The Rat) under Kenmore Square, found the band by taking the T to Newbury Comics to cop Do Or Die in ’98, discovered them in Martin Scorsese’s Academy Award winning The Departed, or saw ‘em throw down at Coachella or one of hundreds of other festivals, you’ve become a part of their extended family. Dropkick Murphys’ music has generated half-a-billion streams, they’ve quietly moved 8 million-plus units worldwide and the band has sold out gigs on multiple continents. Dropkick Murphys' official charity, The Claddagh Fund, has raised millions of dollars to support non-profit organizations that are focused on children, veterans and addiction recovery. Dropkick Murphys’ current album For The People rises to its moment: an expression of humanity at a time of relentless dehumanization, a promise of hope in an era fueled by fear-mongering, a declaration of solidarity in an age of disunion, a defiant rebuttal to the charlatans and demagogues who seek to divide us for their own power and profit.
