The Constitution State quartet Eggy performed at the Brooklyn Bowl in Philadelphia, PA, on Friday, April 25, 2025, as part of their Here and How 2025 Tour. This was their first show at the jam-band–friendly venue in the City of Brotherly Love, which is located in the fun Fishtown neighborhood. They hadn’t played for a couple of weeks but showed no signs of rust as they brought the heat to a diverse crowd.
The show began with set-list staple ‘12 Pounds of Pain.’ Guitarist Jake Brownstein came out swinging during this prog-rock–heavy tune. A short ‘Solid Ground’ followed and included a futuristic synth sequence courtesy of keyboardist Dani Battat. Drummer Alex Bailey lent his skills on vocals during a melodic ‘Come Up Slow.’
The band followed with a raging ‘You,’ which included more of Brownstein’s stellar guitar work. This well-executed build-up magically transitioned into ‘Hux (Wit’ It).’ Bailey’s strong, dynamic beats drove the rest of the band and played nicely with Battat’s contribution. The boys eventually found their way back into ‘You’ complete with another vibrant segue. This included a first-class lighting display via new lighting director Mike Jaws, who previously worked for Dopapod prior to their indefinite hiatus.
The set ended with Traffic’s ‘Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys,’ which was last played on December 16, 2023, in Asheville, NC. Bassist Mike Goodman sang this tune and supplied plenty of tasty bass thumps. The band sailed into dark, evil jam territory, with both Goodman and Brownstein playing off one another, creating copious, delightful peaks. The crowd was full of smiles as they exited the stage for a quick break.
The band returned refreshed and made the moment last with ‘Wayless.’ They unfurled the second cover of the evening with a bouncy ‘Searchlight’ by John Brown’s Body. Bailey’s drums continued to provide depth as the band moved into ‘Northern Lights.’ Battat launched into a spacey, psychedelic sequence while Goodman led the charge on bass. This included both ‘Shatter’ and ‘Hux’ teases. Brownstein continued to dazzle as the foursome skillfully advanced back into ‘Hux’ and eventually ‘Northern Lights,’ completing what can only be described as a face-melting jam sandwich.
The squad then dropped into ‘Waiting Game,’ from their recent 2024 album of the same name. This included ‘Beaming’ teases before taking a left turn back into ‘Wayless,’ which ended the set on a high note. This inspired show concluded with the mellow ‘Leatherback.’
Eggy crushed their performance at the iconic Brooklyn Bowl in Philadephia, PA. The band is up next at several festivals, including Viva El Gonzo on May 8th and 10th as well as the Red Bluff Music and Arts Festival on May 17th. They are also on the line up for BottleRock Napa Valley, the Northlands Music and Arts Festival, and All Good Now. Their next non-festival date is on June 14, 2025 at the Wonder Bar in Asbury Park, NJ. Head on over to their tour page for more details on these shows and more dates on their tour ledger.
