Fiddle player Kate Gregory and cellist Brendan Hearn will release their debut duo album, One Year Since, on Adhyâropa Records on November 14, 2025. The record will be preceded by two singles, “Goodbye Ruby” and “Little Bird.”

The duo first appeared together at the Boston Celtic Music Festival in 2023. Since then, they have transformed their musical friendship into a creative collaboration, recording an album that blends American Old-Time, Irish, and other folk traditions with original tunes. Their music weaves cello and fiddle lines into tightly arranged pieces, enriched by warm vocal harmonies.

Recorded in December 2024 in Portland, Oregon, One Year Since was produced by Gregory and Hearn themselves, alongside engineer Mike Doolin, with additional engineering and mixing by Dylan McKinstry (Greenpoint Recording Co.), and mastering by David Glasser (Airshow Mastering). The release features standout original tracks such as “Goodbye Ruby,” written in memory of Kate’s trusty Subaru, and the title track “One Year Since,” inspired by a rediscovered pandemic-era voice memo. Traditional inspiration intertwines with modern tunes, including a homage to Kate’s fiddle, “Fiddle in the Attic.”

Throughout the album, Kate’s fiddle, shruti box, and voice meet Brendan’s cello, guitars, and vocals in vibrant interplay. Special guest collaborators include Ethan Setiawan (mandolin), Nate Sabat (bass), Nic Gareiss (foot percussion), Neil Pearlman (piano), and Conor Hearn (guitar).

“It doesn’t get any groovier than Kate and Brendan playing together,” says acclaimed fiddler George Jackson of Tall Poppy Stringband. “If you get the chance to get in between their musical-mind-meld with your ears, do it.”
