G. Love, reflecting on his long-standing career, shares, "I've been in the game a long time, but I've always considered myself a student." Having recently finished the album 'The Juice' with Keb Mo', he feels it's a culmination of his journey, a "graduation."
Recorded in Nashville and featuring distinguished artists such as Robert Randolph, Marcus King, and Roosevelt Collier, 'The Juice' is a testament to G. Love's dedication to his craft. The album is a vivid blend of the blues, infusing modern pop spins on the genre and interspersed with hip-hop grooves. It's a call to hope, determination, empathy, and unity in an era ripe with doubt and despair.
Having started his journey as Garrett Dutton in Philadelphia, PA, G. Love's musical heritage spans folk, blues, rap, and more. Over the years, he's collaborated with an eclectic array of artists, from Lucinda Williams and Dave Matthews to The Avett Brothers and Jack Johnson.
One collaboration stands out. "Keb Mo' and I got signed to the same label at the same time," G. Love recalls. Their partnership over the years culminated in Keb Mo' co-producing 'The Juice', a creative process that merged their unique styles, resulting in a masterpiece that's both nostalgic and fresh.
When asked about his aspirations, G. Love muses, "I've never been the kind of guy who thinks he's going to change the world with his guitar. But maybe I can write the kind of songs that give strength and encouragement to the people who are out there doing the work to make this planet a better place."
And while G. Love is most known for his iconic sound, his recent ventures include launching his beer collaboration, starting his own festival, and founding his record label, Philadelphonic. As he succinctly puts it, "I'm more inspired right now than I've ever been before. I'm making the records I've always wanted to make."
Join G. Love & Special Sauce for a night of memorable performances, a journey through time, and an exploration of profound musical creativity. Special guest Jakobs Castle promises to make this evening even more electrifying.
