“Private Volcano,” the new single from Canadian techno supergroup CVCHE, arrives Friday, November 21 and feels like an expansive journey. It opens with layered, pulsing beats that gradually stretch into a wider, immersive space. The track’s thrumming beat feels kinetic, like you’re being carried forward through its sonic landscape. Beneath the steady pulse, rich textures and subtle variations give listeners new details to catch with each listen.
Near the end it begins to shift into a syncopated groove, subtly altering the atmosphere while keeping the original pulse intact. Soon after, the beat slows while still repeating, creating a brief spiraling pause before picking back up and lifting you right back into full energy. The shift in momentum feels intentional and becomes one of the track’s most memorable moments. CVCHE, made up of members from Metric, Broken Social Scene, Kings of Leon, and Leisure Cruise, brings the same sense of motion into their larger creative world alongside their upcoming album Get Fluffy. In addition, each month they’ve been launching new singles and new levels in their custom videogame. The flow of “Private Volcano” pairs naturally with the feel of the game, and it’s worth checking out their latest level here: [CVCHE – video game].
The track pulls you through its own little landscape, rising and falling in a way that feels both simple and transportive. It’s another strong piece of the universe CVCHE is building.
