G. Love & Special Sauce Announce 20th Anniversary Lemonade Tour

Celebrating Two Decades of Their Most Revered Album + New Album Ode to R.L, A Tribute to R.L Boyce

G. Love & Special Sauce will hit the road in 2025 for a celebratory run honoring the 20th anniversary of Lemonade, a landmark album that highlights G. Love’s unmistakable fusion of blues grit, hip-hop cadence, and sun-kissed songwriting. Released in 2006 and now considered one of the group’s most beloved and influential records, Lemonade marked a creative peak, welcoming an all-star roster of collaborators including Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Marc Broussard, Blackalicious, and more. Critics praised its warmth and ease, and fans have carried these songs with them for two decades.

The anniversary tour revives that spirit while celebrating the ever-expanding arc of the band’s catalog, including new material from G. Love’s recent release, Ode to R.L.

Ode to R.L. was born from one of the most powerful nights of G. Love’s career: an impromptu Hill Country blues jam during the Philadelphia Mississippi sessions at the Dickinson family’s famed Zebra Ranch Studios. At a time when the pandemic had silenced stages worldwide, G. Love found himself surrounded by giants—Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Alvin Youngblood Hart, Trenton Ayers, Tikyra Jackson, Sharde Thomas, Boo Mitchell, Luther Dickinson, and more. Then R.L. Boyce stepped into the room, picked up his guitar, and everything changed. What followed was a raw, soul-deep session that G. Love still calls one of the most meaningful musical moments of his life.

After releasing Philadelphia Mississippi, G. Love and producer Logan Tichnor began revisiting that night, exploring the possibility of shaping a full album from R.L.’s performance. As they sifted through the recordings, a cohesive and powerful vision emerged. Tichnor dug deep into the session tapes, extracting the most resonant moments and reimagining them with modern textures and beats. The result is a bridge between generations—a contemporary dialogue between R.L.’s timeless blues and G. Love’s hip-hop-infused storytelling.

“Logan had a bold vision for how to shape this project, and together we started creating what would become Ode to R.L. We began the process while R.L. was still with us, working on it in between road dates. After a six-month hiatus, we returned to the studio reinvigorated—only to receive heartbreaking news the day after our first session back: R.L. had passed,” reflects G. Love.

“That loss gave the project new weight and urgency. We knew we had to finish this album not just as a tribute, but as a living continuation of R.L.’s spirit and sound. What you’re hearing is a true collaboration—a conversation between the old guard of Hill Country blues and a new generation of hip-hop-blues storytellers.”

The title track, “Ode to R.L.,” distills the essence of that unforgettable night and honors the man who tied it all together. The album is dedicated with deep respect and gratitude to R.L. Boyce.

Joining the 2025 tour as special guest is Makua Rothman, the world-class big-wave champion from Oahu’s North Shore turned globally touring musician. After a career-changing injury, Rothman returned to music with renewed intensity, guided by multi-Diamond, multi-Platinum producer Jimmy Messer. He’s crafted a sound that blends reggae, rock, rap, and soul, grounded in his family’s musical lineage—including that of his uncle, the legendary Israel Kamakawiwo’ole. His recent breakout moments include performing at Eddie Vedder’s Ohana Festival (with Vedder joining him onstage), collaborating with Wiz Khalifa, touring internationally with AWOLnation, and appearing at BottleRock Napa Valley. Two decades after Lemonade first landed, G. Love & Special Sauce step into this anniversary tour not as a nostalgia act but as artists still evolving—carrying the blues, old and new, into their next chapter. This run is a gathering of eras, a tribute to the people who shaped the music, and a reminder of the soulful ease that has always defined their sound: community, connection, and a whole lot of groove.
