MARBLE FALLS, Texas — Community members, leaders and FiestaJAM will launch a fundraising campaign for a life-size bronze sculpture of Texas music icon Gary P. Nunn at a kickoff event at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 20, at the Floyd Tillman Sculpture in Marble Falls Lakeside Park.
The sculpture will be the next addition to Marble Falls’ growing tribute to Texas music. The piece will be created by Lubbock bronze artist Garland Weeks, a sixth-generation Texan, former professional rodeo cowboy and Vietnam veteran who has sculpted full-time since 1978. Weeks is known for figurative works celebrating Texas and Western heritage.
Nunn will join Texas singer-songwriter and FiestaJAM founder John Arthur Martinez, former bandmate Bob Livingston, FiestaJAM organizers, community leaders and supporters at the kickoff. Livingston’s musical history includes work with Nunn, Jerry Jeff Walker and Michael Martin Murphey. Live acoustic music and food will be provided.
Few artists have shaped the sound and spirit of Texas music like Gary P. Nunn. A founding figure of the 1970s Austin progressive country movement, Nunn was a member of the Lost Gonzo Band, which backed Jerry Jeff Walker and Michael Martin Murphey. His anthem “London Homesick Blues,” with its unforgettable refrain “I wanna go home with the armadillo,” served for decades as the theme song for PBS’s Austin City Limits, and his “What I Like About Texas” is yet another Texas anthem. His songwriting continues to reach new generations: “The Last Thing I Needed First Thing This Morning,” recorded by Willie Nelson, was later covered by Chris Stapleton on his Grammy-winning album Traveller.
The Nunn sculpture will join the Floyd Tillman Sculpture, which honors the Country Music Hall of Fame inductee and longtime Marble Falls resident. The project is part of a year-long effort to celebrate the area’s musical history and its role in Texas music, and organizers plan to honor other music legends who have called Marble Falls home in the future.
Nunn will also perform with The Sons of the Bunkhouse Band at FiestaJAM on November 7 at Round Mountain Cider Mill, 222 Lee Lane, Round Mountain, Texas.
FiestaJAM 2026 takes place November 6–8 at Round Mountain Cider Mill. This year’s lineup features Diamond Rio, Gary P. Nunn & The Sons of the Bunkhouse Band, Ruben Ramos & The Mexican Revolution, Buddy Jewell and more, along with the Kent Finlay Texas Song Search Finals.
FiestaJAM is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to raising funds to support and promote regional youth music education. Proceeds from FiestaJAM currently benefit the music education programs at Marble Falls Independent School District and Harmony School of Creative Arts.
