(Flushing, New York) – On Friday, November 21, Flushing Town Hall will host a vibrant cultural exchange as Moroccan and Spanish flamenco traditions meet the rich sounds of Colombian Gaita music. The evening features performances by Seffarine and La Cumbiamba eNeYé in a dynamic Global Mashup lineup.

The night begins at 7PM with two interactive dance workshops that invite audiences to step directly into the rhythms that define each culture. At 8PM, each ensemble performs its own distinct set, showcasing the sonic identities that have shaped their artistic journeys. The program concludes with a collaborative “Mashup” set, bringing both groups together onstage for an energetic finale.

Flushing Town Hall designed the Global Mashup series to highlight cross-cultural dialogue through music, movement, and audience participation. This edition, Global Mashup: Seffarine (Moroccan Crossroad Ensemble) Meets La Cumbiamba eNeYé (Colombia), promises an evening of global connection rooted in tradition, virtuosity, and the joy of shared artistic expression.

Seffarine features vocalist Lamiae Naki, whose musical lineage draws from Morocco’s deep traditions, and guitarist Nat Hulskamp, a flamenco specialist immersed in the sounds of Southern Spain. Their work explores the centuries-old cultural bridge between Morocco and Andalusia, weaving intricate rhythms, soulful vocals, oud textures, and flamenco guitar into a resonant and contemporary sonic landscape. Their music has taken them around the world—from Indonesia to Europe—and into studios with major flamenco artists including Diego del Morao and Latin Grammy Award winner Antonio Rey.

La Cumbiamba eNeYé brings the vibrant pulse of Colombia’s Caribbean coast to the stage, channeling the Indigenous, African, and European influences that shape traditional Gaita music. Their New York–based ensemble incorporates harmonious flutes made of cactus wood, hand-beaten drums, and driving melodic lines. The group has performed at celebrated venues including Lincoln Center Out of Doors, Central Park SummerStage, Symphony Space, Tilles Center for the Performing Arts, and Riverside Church.

“By blending the soulful sounds of Morocco and Spain with the vibrant songs of Colombia’s Caribbean region, we gather to celebrate long-standing traditions while kicking up our heels!” said Ellen Kodadek, Executive and Artistic Director of Flushing Town Hall. “Flushing Town Hall’s Global Mashups highlight the distinctions and commonalities between cultures, artists, and audiences—in the most delightful way.”

General admission is $25 for adults, $20 for members, and $5 for children 12 and under.

About the Artists

La Cumbiamba eNeYé

Established in 2000, La Cumbiamba eNeYé performs both classic and contemporary Gaita music, authentically reviving the powerful sounds of Colombia’s Caribbean traditions. Their performances evoke the festive ruedas—musical circles central to Gaita and Bullerengue gatherings—while highlighting the region’s three cultural currents: Indigenous (flutes), Afro-diasporic (drums), and European/Iberian (vocals and melody). The group prominently features Indigenous gaita flutes, known by their native name, CHUANA.

The ensemble is led by New York–based Colombian composer, folklorist, and educator Martín Vejarano, whose work under CHIAMUSIC reimagines traditional Colombian formats for modern audiences.

Seffarine

Seffarine unites Moroccan vocalist Lamiae Naki and flamenco guitarist Nat Hulskamp, backed by master musicians from a variety of cultural backgrounds. Their performances merge explosive flamenco footwork, global percussion, and richly layered instrumentation. SoundRoots describes their sound as “an ear-caressing blend of sounds from Spain and North Africa, spiced with a bit of fiery instrumentation and percussion.”
