Grayson Capps Shares “News” from The Weight of the World

“News,” the second single from Grayson Capps’ forthcoming album, The Weight of the World, is out now. A five-minute blast of psychedelic swamp rock, Capps confronts growing older in an age of fear-centric disinformation where it’s becoming harder and harder to know what to believe.

“Your psychic antennas need to be up to decipher truth from lies these days,” says Capps. "Even our beloved Alice way down in the rabbit hole is losing faith, but somewhere in those depths the light still shines."

His first full-length album of original material in nine years, The Weight of the World finds the Fairhope, Alabama-based singer-songwriter returning to form with a collection of songs encompassing the barefoot, country boy philosophizing and earthy musical minimalism that have come to define his singular voice on the American roots music landscape. Due November 6 on RPF Records/Royal Potato Family, the nine-track collection was co-produced by Capps, Ryan Avinger and longtime guitarist Corky Hughes at Dauphin Street Sound in Mobile, AL.

Capps has good reason for the years away from the studio. After a prolific run of solo albums from 2005 through 2017, he and his partner, Grammy Award-winning recording engineer Trina Shoemaker, entered the homestretch of raising children and seeing them out from the nest. Simultaneously, he was caring for his father whose health was slowly deteriorating. He’d pass away in 2025. While continuing to play upwards of 150 shows a year in all corners of the world, the day-to-day responsibilities of looking after his family left little time for the solitude his songwriting demanded.

“Songwriting is my way of navigating the world. It makes me feel free and fulfilled. So when I make a record, it’s at my own pace and my own terms,” says Capps. “I feel like I’m returning to the frenetic pace of my earlier work. I’m singing better than ever, and creatively finding the emotion and texture in the music that feels resonate and alive."

The Weight of the World is out November 6, 2026. Pre-order available on 180-gram vinyl, CD and digital formats at orcd.co/theweightoftheworld.
