With many of their wildest dreams strung across twenty-one years as an outfit, the Henhouse Prowlers’ sight remains fixed on the future. The kinship between Ben Wright (banjo, vocals), Chris Dollar (guitar, vocals), Jon Goldfine (bass, vocals), and Jake Howard (mandolin, vocals) is palpable, the four having traveled to places most would never predict—even closing out their most recent State Department-led cultural diplomacy tour in country #30, Mexico, just before the Halloween run.
Though as far and wide as they circle the globe, the Prowlers feel a special kinship with Chicago and its supportive community. Since the early days, Northside haunt Martyrs’ has long been home, and the band realized it had been nearly a decade since their last three-night stand there.
This Halloween, they return with three uniquely themed shows:
-
Thu, Oct 30 – Inside The Hen’s Den: The Living Room Sessions with Full Spectrum
Doors 7PM | Show 8PM | $28 adv / $34 doors -
Fri, Oct 31 – Henhouse of Horrors featuring Jason Carter (Del McCoury Band) on fiddle for three sets
Doors 8PM | Show 9PM | $28 adv / $34 doors -
Sat, Nov 1 – Hen’s Wearhouse with special guest Jonas Friddle
Doors 8PM | Show 9PM | $28 adv / $34 doors
Presented by Jam Productions, single night tickets and 3-day passes are available now via AXS.
The band unveiled a grindcore movie-style poster by Subject Matter Studio to promote the run, declaring: “Can’t wait to rock these themes with y’all at this hometown throwdown.”
Ever constant in the Prowlers’ performances is their ability to balance storytelling, intricate instrumentation, and four-part harmonies with a genuine passion for both their craft and our shared humanity. Their latest record, Unravel—produced by Dark Shadow Recording’s Stephen Mougin (Sam Bush Band)—underscores the band’s refusal to be contained by genre, blending Americana, bluegrass, and classic country influences with explorations of life on the road, war, loss, and joy.
To date, Henhouse Prowlers have toured 30 countries on 5 continents, working with the U.S. State Department and their nonprofit Bluegrass Ambassadors. Through workshops, presentations, and a forthcoming documentary, they spread the simple truth discovered in every corner of the globe: “We humans have more in common than we don’t.”
