The Neal Casal Music Foundation and Osiris Media have announced the launch of Highway Butterfly: The Stories of Neal Casal—a companion podcast that will be presented in the leadup to the release of tribute album Highway Butterfly: The Songs of Neal Casal.
The podcast will launch on Friday, September 10, 2021, including interviews with Billy Strings, Dave Schools, and co-producer Jim Scott, among others. Each contributor to the album will be interviewed about the song they chose and their relationship with Neal. The podcast interviews will be released throughout the Fall of 2021.
Highway Butterfly: The Songs of Neal Casal serves as a tribute to the life and music of the gifted singer, songwriter, and musician, and will be released on November 12, 2021. A sprawling 41-song collection, now available for pre-order as both 5-LP and 3-CD box sets, brings together a galaxy of rock and roots luminaries that includes Susan Tedeschi & Derek Trucks, Bob Weir, Hiss Golden Messenger, Fruit Bats, Steve Earle & The Dukes, Jonathan Wilson, Vetiver, Shooter Jennings, Beachwood Sparks, Jaime Wyatt, Marcus King, J Mascis, Dori Freeman, Warren Haynes, Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band, Cass McCombs, Leslie Mendelson, Johnathan Rice, Billy Strings, Kenny Roby, Norah Jones’ Puss N Boots and Aaron Lee Tasjan among many others. All proceeds from sales and streams of the recordings will benefit The Neal Casal Music Foundation.
“Working on the Neal Casal Highway, Butterfly project was a long-term emotional investment: saddening for those of us mourning the loss of a brilliant artist and friend, yet healing in the fellowship of recording Neal’s songs. Ultimately Highway Butterfly stands as one of the most rewarding projects I have ever completed,” said Dave Schools, co-producer of the album and the podcast. “I can’t wait for everyone to hear what the Highway Butterfly podcasts bring to light from these selfless artists who brought their unique magic to this project.”
Highway Butterfly: The Stories of Neal Casal will be distributed by Osiris Media, and will be available wherever you get your podcasts.
