Hinterland Music Festival Returns to Iowa July 30–August 2 with Lorde, Mumford & Sons, Kali Uchis and KATSEYE

The heartland's premier independent music festival, Hinterland Music Festival, is gearing up for its 11th annual edition, taking place over four days from Thursday, July 30, to Sunday, August 2, in St. Charles, IA, just 30 minutes south of Des Moines. As one of the nation's leading independently owned festivals, Hinterland has built its reputation by bringing world-class talent alongside tomorrow's breakout artists to the heart of the Midwest.

True to the festival's reputation for thoughtful curation, founder and producer Sam Summers has once again assembled a lineup that reflects where music is headed. Spanning pop, indie, rock, R&B, Latin music, folk, and alternative, the 2026 bill balances globally celebrated artists with the next generation of breakout talent, creating the wide-ranging musical experience that has made Hinterland a destination for fans across the country and worldwide.

From Grammy winners and chart-toppers to viral sensations and emerging voices building devoted fan communities, Hinterland's 2026 lineup embodies the festival's signature blend of discovery and unforgettable live performances.

This year's lineup is led by KATSEYE, Lorde, Mumford & Sons, and Kali Uchis. Beyond its headliners, Hinterland’s 2026 lineup is packed with artists who are shaping what’s next across pop, indie, rock, R&B, Latin music, and alternative sounds. Young Miko brings the energy of Puerto Rico’s Latin trap and reggaeton scene, MUNA arrives with the kind of devoted following that turns every set into a singalong, and Audrey Hobert brings major Gen Z pop momentum after helping write standout hits with Gracie Abrams and launching her own breakout solo career.

The weekend also features Audrey Nuna, whose genre-blurring sound has reached an even wider audience through KPop Demon Hunters; Julia Wolf, whose dedicated “Wolfpack” fanbase has helped fuel her alt-pop rise; and Brooklyn rock band Geese.

Beyond the music, Hinterland continues to offer an immersive festival experience with returning favorites and new activations throughout the grounds. Fans can browse the HinterMarket featuring regional artists and makers, relax at the White Claw Hammock Hang, participate in daily yoga and sound bath sessions, visit the expanded MiniLand family area with an even larger footprint and more live performances, browse the Iowa Alliance for Arts Education Silent Auction, recharge in the Sensory Space, and enjoy offerings from 36 food vendors, including 11 Iowa-based businesses.

New and expanded outdoor experiences invite attendees to wander more than 3.5 miles of hiking trails featuring art installations, two covered bridges, wildlife-themed paths, lemonade stands, and other interactive surprises. Festivalgoers can also enjoy a vibrant sunflower field with unique photo opportunities and a new four-hole disc golf course.

Complementing these additions, the Hinterland grounds have expanded by 130 acres for 2026 and now span nearly 400 acres across camping and parking, with 27 acres dedicated to the main festival concourse. Anchored by a new permanent stage, the expanded site marks a significant milestone in the festival's evolution. Located in the Iowa countryside just off Interstate 35 and 30 minutes south of Des Moines, Hinterland now ranks among the Midwest's largest outdoor music festival sites.

Festival organizers have also introduced several improvements designed to enhance the fan experience, including a new GA+ admission tier featuring an exclusive lounge, air-conditioned restrooms, dedicated food vendors and bar, expanded camping options, improved traffic flow with relocated single-day parking and car camping on the festival's new west-side grounds, and mobile pump-out and water refill services for RV campers.

Camping remains a cornerstone of the Hinterland experience, with options ranging from traditional tent camping and car camping to RV sites and glamping accommodations. Parking passes are available, and attendees can also take advantage of the Des Moines shuttle service operating between Southridge Mall and the festival grounds.

One-day, two-day, and four-day admission passes, along with camping and parking options, are on sale now at hinterlandiowa.com. Tickets purchased after July 12 require wristband pickup at Will Call before entering the festival.

ABOUT HINTERLAND MUSIC FESTIVAL

hinterland [hin-ter-land]: The land behind a river. The rural area near a city. A backwater.

Hinterland Music Festival is a four-day music event curated for people who love both music and the outdoors. True to its name, Hinterland is held in Saint Charles, a beautiful rural escape just outside Des Moines, Iowa. The annual festival features a blend of music, camping, art, craft vendors, family engagement, and more.

The inaugural Hinterland, held in 2015, established a fresh and unique music festival getaway that thousands look forward to every summer, delivering an elevated personal experience without the overwhelming crowds of larger festivals. Past lineups have included Chappell Roan, Lana Del Rey, Zach Bryan, Tyler, The Creator, Leon Bridges, Sturgill Simpson, Kacey Musgraves, Bon Iver, Brandi Carlile, Willie Nelson, alt-J, Lake Street Dive, Hozier, Noah Kahan, Band of Horses, Grace Potter, Ray LaMontagne, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Orville Peck, Tyler Childers, Charlie Crockett, Vampire Weekend, Red Clay Strays, Maggie Rogers, Phoebe Bridgers, Billy Strings, Khruangbin, Old Crow Medicine Show, Mt. Joy, Gary Clark Jr., Shakey Graves, and more.

I think the headline works nicely here — big names up front, but still reads like a festival piece rather than a pop press release.
