Following an extensive 2026 run celebrating the album that launched his career, platinum-selling, six-time GRAMMY-nominated blues-rock guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd has announced that his Ledbetter Heights 30th Anniversary Tour will continue into 2027 due to demand.
The newly announced run launches March 20 at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, Florida, and continues through April 13, bringing Shepherd and his band to cities across the South, Northeast, Midwest and Canada. Highlights include Greenville’s Peace Center, Buffalo’s Kleinhans Music Hall, Toronto’s Massey Hall, Washington, D.C.’s Warner Theatre, and shows throughout New York, New England, Florida and beyond.

The 2027 extension continues a celebration that has taken Shepherd across the U.S. and internationally throughout 2026, performing his landmark 1995 debut Ledbetter Heights in its entirety for the first time, alongside a career-spanning set drawn from three decades of music.
The tour coincides with the release of Ledbetter Heights (The 30th Anniversary Sessions), Shepherd’s newly recorded version of the album that first introduced him to the world. Released in May, the project revisits the original 12-song collection from the perspective of an artist shaped by three decades of touring, recording and collaboration. The album was preceded by new versions of “Deja Voodoo,” “One Foot on the Path” and “Born With A Broken Heart,” each offering a glimpse at how Shepherd approached the material with a deeper sense of nuance and intention while preserving the fire of the original recordings.
“This is the album that put me on the map. My goal has always been to make timeless music,” Shepherd says. “Unfiltered and straight from the heart.”
Thirty years ago, Shepherd was a Fender Strat-wielding teenager from Shreveport, Louisiana, emerging at a time when grunge dominated the cultural conversation. Unapologetically rooted in a genre often pushed to the margins, his combination of fiery fretwork, pop-rock hooks and deep reverence for the blues connected with a new generation of listeners.
Signed by legendary executive Irving Azoff at just 16, Shepherd recorded Ledbetter Heights while still in high school, splitting his time between classes in Louisiana and sessions in Memphis. He wrote or co-wrote the majority of the material, an uncommon accomplishment for a teenage blues guitarist at the time, and named the album in honor of a historic neighborhood in his hometown that pays tribute to Northwest Louisiana blues legend Huddie “Lead Belly” Ledbetter.
The album became an immediate breakout, going Gold within months and earning Platinum certification by early 1996. It spent 10 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Blues Chart, and Guitar World ranked Shepherd the No. 3 blues artist in the world, behind only B.B. King and Eric Clapton.
Three decades later, the anniversary sessions bring Shepherd back to that formative music with the benefit of a lifetime spent playing it. The new recordings retain the spirit and energy of the originals while reflecting a more deliberate approach to arrangement and a more expressive guitar voice.
“Revisiting this album put me back in touch with the wonder and excitement of those days,” said Shepherd. “I didn’t know what lay ahead. I just knew I loved playing the blues.”
In the years between the original Ledbetter Heights and today, Shepherd has built one of the most enduring careers in modern blues-rock. His sophomore album, Trouble Is…, reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart and spent 20 consecutive weeks atop the Billboard Blues Chart. Across his career, Shepherd has earned six GRAMMY nominations, multiple Platinum and Gold records, and shared stages with artists including B.B. King, Bob Dylan, Van Halen, The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
His 12-album catalog, along with two albums recorded with The Rides alongside Stephen Stills and Barry Goldberg, reflects a career built around keeping one foot firmly planted in blues tradition while continually exploring the broader rock landscape. Recent releases including the GRAMMY-nominated Young Fashioned Ways with Bobby Rush and the double album Dirt on My Diamonds Vol. 1 & 2 underscore an artist who continues to push forward even while revisiting the music that started it all.
