Man Boy Brown — the alter ego of Raul Pacheco, vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, and co-founding member of the three-time GRAMMY® Award-winning Los Angeles mainstay Ozomatli — releases his new single, “Golden Ride,” a buoyant, rhythm-forward track that channels nostalgia, freedom, and the pure medicine of music.
Driven by swirling, bubbly synths and an easy, dancefloor pulse, “Golden Ride” nods to ’70s disco and R&B influences like Silver Convention and Andrea True while filtering them through Pacheco’s melodic sensibility and spacious production style. “Give me medicine of dance all day/Take it to the night away,” he sings, capturing the song’s essence as both escape and affirmation. “That’s what a song is for me — a golden ride,” Pacheco explains, describing the track as a mellow Euro take on the era’s groove-driven sound.
As Man Boy Brown, Pacheco steps into a more intimate and personal creative space, exploring themes of connection, growth, and self-discovery. While Ozomatli has long been associated with outward-facing social activism, this solo project allows him to reflect inward — revisiting the music of his youth, from his parents’ traditional records to his sisters’ rock collection, and embracing the youthful outlook that continues to fuel his artistry.
Dividing his time between New Mexico and his hometown of Boyle Heights in East L.A., Pacheco continues to balance his “day job” with Ozomatli while carving out his own path. With “Golden Ride,” he offers a reminder of music’s transformative power — a song as motion, memory, and possibility.
For Raul Pacheco, the ride continues.
