Some songs arrive like postcards from another life. Matt Palka’s new single “My Ramblin’ Rose” does exactly that, capturing a fleeting connection forged beneath Colorado skies and carried forward through memory, gratitude, and song.
The track is the third single from Palka’s forthcoming collaborative album and audiobook project Moment In The Sun, with the album due June 19 and the immersive audiobook arriving June 25. Based on true events from Palka’s cross-country bicycling odyssey, the project blends storytelling and music inspired by the many characters he encountered along the way.
Previous singles “Oh, Angela” and “Gypsy Queen” introduced listeners to the emotional and cinematic spirit of the larger work. Now “My Ramblin’ Rose” turns toward Colorado and one unforgettable encounter.
Palka explains:
“I was three weeks into my solo cross-country bicycle trip when I decided to take a day off from biking in Grand Lake, Colorado. I had just ridden over the highest highway in America and nearly died by riding off the peak. When checking into the Grand Lake youth hostel I met an earthy soulful girl who was driving from the East Coast and taking a break from her boyfriend. We spent a couple of days together, exploring the area, and I saw the Milky Way for the first time with her while sprawled out at midnight along the lake. I knew that our time was fleeting but I was happy for the gift of connection and even considered ending my bike trip right there to spend whatever days we could together. This song is about that time.”
That sense of wonder and impermanence runs throughout the song, where love is less about possession than presence. “My Ramblin’ Rose” feels like a road-worn folk meditation on timing, chance, and letting beauty pass through your hands without trying to hold it too tightly.

BUZZ
“The hints of philosophy are so transcendent, Moment In The Sun shines bright.”
— Performing Songwriter Magazine
“Nostalgic swirls of pedal steel and Matt’s emotionally expressive vocals launch this relatable tale of a young couple on an open road adventure. It’s expansive and evocative as you can almost feel the wind blowing in through the open windows.”
— Americana Highways
“Features gentle guitar and almost-yodeling vocals… which combine to create a gentle, hopeful atmosphere… the mood and sentiment of the track are in agreement – it’s important to take care of yourself, those you love and keep going even when it’s hard.”

Lyrics: “My Ramblin’ Rose”
Your skinny legs so tan
Carried you far across this land
Now your youth never meant to last
This harvest too, shall pass
But babe, come ease your mind
Let idleness unwind
So ramble, my Rose
It’s a gamble, but my love grows
So ramble, my Rose
Whichever way the wind blows
Your painted hand in mine
Barefoot walking back in time
Morning glories by the mountain stream
Offer up their lazy dream
So we swayed to the lullaby
Sung from that old magpie
Now I don’t mind
If we’re just wasting time
’Cause when you are by my side
Steady she goes and light
So let’s waste some time together
In this moment is forever
Love at all costs, my chips are all in
If you never play, how can you win?
A mischievous smile and a long embrace
Signals your season’s changing state
But what is time but moments shared?
So share this love and leave nothing spared
And yet I’ll hate to see you go
My very own Ramblin Rose
My very own Ramblin Rose
Never knowing which way she rolls
