Founded in 2011, The Milk Carton Kids quickly emerged as standard-bearers of modern American folk, renowned for ethereal two-part harmonies, nimble guitar work, and understated, razor-sharp songwriting. Their national breakthrough came with The Ash & Clay (2013), earning a GRAMMY® nomination for Best Folk Album. Further nominations followed for “The City of Our Lady” (Best American Roots Performance, 2015) and All The Things That I Did and All The Things That I Didn’t Do (Best Engineered Album, Non‑Classical, 2018). Their 2019 release The Only Ones drew widespread praise, with Rolling Stone noting the duo’s “beautiful basics,” and NPR’s World Café lauding their sibling‑tight blend and deep reverence for folk tradition.
Most recently, The Milk Carton Kids earned their fourth GRAMMY® nomination—Best Folk Album—for I Only See The Moon, released on Far Cry Records in partnership with Thirty Tigers. The new material has become a centerpiece of their live sets, where wit, warmth, and crystalline musicianship meet in intimate, pin‑drop performances. “Both of us have now lived enough life to understand that maybe one of the purposes we were put on Earth for is to sing together,” says Pattengale.
