Dynamic, progressive, funk sextet, Mother Hubbard, will release their EP, LIVE, on November 1st via Gold’N Retriever Entertainment. The six song EP was recorded on stage at 118 North in Wayne, PA on May 30th, 2024, and features the band’s vibrant and joyous take on some favorites including songs by Bob Marley, Amy Winehouse, and The Beatles. Mother Hubbard incorporates their jazz background into a lively and dynamic set while exploring and sharing influential songs that allow the listener to feel the immediacy of their live performances.

Nick Nella is featured on lead guitar and vocals and is joined by bassist Mike Bereski, drummer Liam Kerekes, electric guitarist Jerry Ulichny (who also takes the lead vocals on “Half Time”), trumpet player, Patrick Dudasik, and tenor saxophonist Matt Tischio. LIVE Is produced by Mother Hubbard, engineered by Patrick Duffy, and mixed and mastered by Matt Filipek.

“We tend to throw covers into our live sets pretty often and always strive to put the ol' Ma Hubbard spin on them,” says Nella. “These tunes in particular paint a nice picture of what that usually ends up sounding like, so it felt right to put it out.”

“Turn Your Lights Down Low’ is a somewhat lesser-known Bob Marley song that initially caught our bassist Mike's attention,” he continues. “We kept this one relatively true to form apart from altering the beat a bit and throwing in an intimate guitar solo in the middle.”

“Amy Winehouse has been and continues to be a major inspiration for us. This isn't the first time we've covered her music, though it is the first time we performed these tunes in particular. ‘He Can Only Hold Her’ and ‘Half Time’ are two, very different Winehouse selections. We decided to accent that by having me sing the first, and our guitarist, Jerry, the latter. Each include rippin' solos from Jerry and our tenor saxophonist, Matt.”

“This EP closes out with a Beatles medley that includes three tracks off their notorious White Album. The three tunes are sequenced in the same order that they appear on the original record. If it isn't already obvious, The Beatles are one of Mother Hubbard's biggest inspiration. Though each of these tracks were primarily inspired by Ramsey Lewis' 1968 release, ‘Mother Nature's Son’ - an instrumental album comprised of all Beatles covers. So, essentially, these are covers of covers with a hint of our own thang sprinkled throughout.”

Mother Hubbard is a rising progressive funk group hailing from Northern New Jersey, bringing New Jersey’s infamously unyielding and lively energy to today’s music scene. The band’s members include Nick Nella (Vocals and Guitar), Mike Bereski (Bass and Keys), Liam Kerekes (Drums), Jerry Ulichny (Guitar and Vocals,) Patrick Dudasik (Trumpet), and Matt Tischio (Tenor Sax).

Captivating listeners with their distinct and strident yet steady sound, Mother Hubbard’s members met at William Paterson University -- home to one of the country’s most esteemed jazz music programs. The band has performed at legendary rock venues in the region including The Bitter End, The Stone Pony, Rockwood Music Hall, and Crossroads. They were featured as support for Gavin DeGraw.
