Santa has decided to give Old Settler’s Music Festival fans an early Christmas present—word that Texas’ own outlaw-country-loving rockers the Old 97’s have been added to the 30th-anniversary festival lineup, along with Austin’s rising blues boys, the Peterson Brothers. They join a sure-to-be-swingin’ roster of roots music talent appearing Thursday-Sunday, April 20-23, 2017, at the Salt Lick BBQ Pavilion and Camp Ben McCulloch in Driftwood, just southwest of Austin. Old Settler’s elves will begin selling discounted single-day wristband vouchers on Thursday, Dec. 15, augmenting already on-sale early-bird camping package specials. Early-bird prices are available while they last or through Jan. 15. All purchases may be made at oldsettlersmusicfest.org.

For 29 years, Old Settler’s has been bringing the best purveyors of authentic American music to this bucolic site in in the Texas Hill Country, and year 30 is shaping up to be the most exciting one yet. The lineup already includes Grammy winners Sam Bush, the Del McCoury Band and first-timers Los Lobos, plus favorites from Austin’s own Shinyribs, Sarah Jarosz, Wood & Wire and hot newbie Shakey Graves (who acquired his stage name while volunteering at the festival) to Elephant Revival, Anders Osborne, Gaelic Storm, the Peter Rowan Band, the Travelin’ McCourys and other legends and rising stars.

Once the scheduled music ends, impromptu campground jams sprout like April wildflowers. It feels like a family affair, and participants swear it is. Snap up your tickets at early-bird prices now, because they won’t be around for long.
