Inside Hustle is a music industry event gathering critical voices from the Philadelphia music ecosystem in the areas of management, booking, radio, streaming, legal, agency, publicity and social media, studio, production, promotion, festivals and accounting. Emerging musicians and non-musicians aspiring to work in the Philadelphia music industry will gather at World Cafe Live on the afternoon of October 15, 2022, from 12:00 to 3:00 PM. Inside Hustle is a free event organized and produced by Philly Music Fest, a non-profit organization that produces a series of shows featuring Philadelphia musicians at independent venues between October 10th and October 15th. Philly Music Fest is a non-profit that donates proceeds to local music education organizations.

Inside Hustle will begin with an artist panel moderated by Bruce Warren, Assistant General Manager of Programming at WXPN, and Greg Seltzer, Founder and Producer of Philly Music Fest, featuring Adam Weiner (Low Cut Connie), Marisa Dabice (Mannequin Pussy), Bets Charmelus (ILL Fated Natives) and Jill Ryan (GREAT TIME). The artists will discuss the journey from DIY to national touring musicians and, specifically, what local musicians need from the music scene in order to be successful.

The event will then include a series of breakout tables featuring the following experts on topics including studio and production, agencies, management, radio, promoters & talent buyers, publicity, festival producers, legal, accounting & finance, design & visual art, NFTs and Women in Music.  Attendees will have the unique opportunity to interact, ask questions, network and listen.

Experts include:
Connor Barwin (Make The World Better), Dan Berkowitz (100x), Sekou Campbell (Culhane Meadows), Jacob Cohen CPA, Michael Eckstein (AllCertified), Jon Hampton (Live Nation), Kevin Horn (Underground Arts), Merrick Jarmulowicz (Ground Control Touring), Wendi Jensen (Women In Music), Todd Mecaughey, (Cambridge Sound Studio), Sara Parker (WMMR), Chris Perella (Ardmore Music Hall), Maggie Poulos (Mixtape Media), Mike Vasilikos (WXPN), John Vettese (WXPN), Christine Wolff (Interscope Records),Tim Zahodski (Better Artists), Hannah Westerman (Avenue West), Jeff Zeigler (Uniform Recording).

In addition to professionals from the Philadelphia region, Inside Hustle has attracted experts from Los Angeles and New York. “The Philly music scene has made incredible strides in the last five or so years, as a bunch of bands are breaking out nationally, but Inside Hustle is uniquely focusing on the support system for musicians. We try and do our part at WXPN, but musicians need a village to succeed," said Bruce Warren. Bands such as The War on Drugs, Kurt Vile, Mt. Joy, the aforementioned Low Cut Connie and Mannequin Pussy, Japanese Breakfast, Lucy Dacus, The Roots and Dr. Dog have emerged from the Philadelphia music community, but Philadelphia has been slower to cultivate the adjacent professions.

“In order to grow a music industry in Philadelphia, we need to aggregate the disparate parts of the scene, facilitate collaboration, educate, and pave a path for non-musicians that want to dedicate their professional life to supporting musicians”, said Greg Seltzer. “We need to create a home in Philadelphia for managers, agents, promoters and publicists, rather than have our people leave for Los Angeles, New York and Nashville.”
