Baltimore-bred psychedelic funk trailblazers Pigeons Playing Ping Pong proudly announces the release of their eighth studio album, Feed The Fire, available today via No Coincidence Records. Across twelve new tracks, the band channels nearly two decades of fearless creativity, relentless touring, and deep communion with their devoted fanbase into their most dynamic and collaborative work to date.
For the band, ‘Feed The Fire’ is not only an album title but a rallying cry. “The fire represents passion,” explains frontman “Scrambled Greg” Ormont. “Making music feels like something we were born to do, and Feed The Fire is the perfect metaphor for our unwavering commitment to keep evolving. We’ve been given this gift of fire, this passion. So it’s our responsibility to nurture it, embrace it, and spread it wild.”

Throughout their journey, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong have established themselves as architects of joyous, dance-floor-ready anthems, consistently fueled by an improvisational spirit and a steadfast connection to The Flock. On Feed The Fire, the band pushes their kaleidoscopic sound further, inviting adventurous collaboration and revealing new dimensions of their artistry. Guitarist Jeremy Schon recalls the process with clarity: “Every album we make reflects where we are personally and musically. For Feed The Fire, we leaned into exploring textures, pushing boundaries, and letting the songs guide us.”
The album captures milestone moments for the quartet. Nashville keyboardist and virtuoso Wes Bailey of Moon Taxi co-wrote the spiraling guitar hooks on the title track, marking the first time Pigeons have welcomed an outside co-writer. Bassist Ben Carrey delivers his first-ever studio lead vocal on the hope-filled anthem “Hit The Ground Runnin’,” a groove-heavy song that celebrates perseverance and trust in the long road of life. Elsewhere, longtime collaborators Here Come The Mummies and members of West End Blend contribute horn firepower, while producer Chalk Dinosaur layers psychedelic textures on the instrumental “Twitch” and the darkly hypnotic “Underworld.” Together these contributions expand the Pigeons’ sonic universe, weaving brassy punches, cosmic flourishes, and deep pocket grooves into a vibrant whole.
Listeners will find the band’s playful, buoyant energy distilled into “Right Track,” a three-and-a-half-minute singalong that balances resilience with lighthearted optimism. Ormont describes its lyrical thrust: “The first verse sets the scene with someone feeling lost, stuck in self-doubt. But they’re reminded that they’ve gotten through tough times before, and they will again. It’s about resilience, perspective, and focusing on the next right move.” From the sultry, retro-futuristic shimmer of “Fantasy” to the storm-building intensity of “Calm Before The Storm,” and the rebellious urgency of “Undivided,” the album is a living flame that never stops flickering, growing, and illuminating new paths.
The creative bond between band and audience remains the lifeblood of Pigeons’ evolution. “We’ve always been a live band first,” says Ormont. “Testing songs on the road and watching how they hit audiences gives us invaluable insight. These tracks are born from live energy, refined in the studio, and built to reflect that shared experience.” The band’s story is one of exponential growth, from humble beginnings at the University of Maryland to selling out iconic venues across the country, including a triumphant hometown performance at Merriweather Post Pavilion during the All Good Now Festival. Their beloved self-produced festival Domefest has also flourished, now drawing thousands each year to West Virginia’s New River Gorge while maintaining the communal spirit that has defined the Pigeons’ ethos.
The release of Feed The Fire coincides with one of the most ambitious tours of Pigeons Playing Ping Pong’s career. Kicking off with a special album release celebration at Wilmington, North Carolina’s Greenfield Lake Amphitheater on October 3, the run stretches across the country, weaving through iconic theaters, clubs, and festivals before culminating in a climactic New Year’s Eve celebration in Denver. Along the way, the band will bring its high-energy, improvisation-fueled live show to historic rooms like Boston’s Paradise Rock Club for a three-night stand, New Orleans’ Tipitina’s, Atlanta’s Variety Playhouse, and two-nights at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York. Regional favorites and rising stars including Eddie 9V, Big Something, Dizgo, Eggy, Dogs in a Pile, Spafford, and Great Blue will join as special guests on select dates, ensuring each stop feels like a distinct celebration. The fall journey not only highlights the band’s deep ties to cities across the U.S. but also underscores their reputation for community-building and musical adventure.
