This Fall, the Rainforest Alliance is joining forces with music-based environmental nonprofit, REVERB on their Campus Consciousness Tour, which aims to mobilize students to take positive action for the planet through a nation-wide college music tour. The tour will kick off on October 24th at Kent State University, Ohio, visiting a total of 12 colleges across the Midwest and Northeast regions, before wrapping up on November 16th at Colby College, Maine.“Every product on college campuses has an environmental and social footprint,” said Tensie Whelan, president of the Rainforest Alliance. “By demanding sustainable options on campus, like coffee, tea, chocolate and paper, students can help support a healthier future for people and the planet. The College Consciousness Tour is a fun and engaging way to bring this message to life.”Half music tour, half environmental and social consciousness campaign, REVERB’s annual Campus Consciousness Tour brings top musical acts to college campuses across the country in an effort to raise awareness about environmental and social issues. The fall 2013 tour is sponsored by Lipton, who is committed to sourcing 100 percent of its tea from Rainforest Alliance CertifiedTM farms by 2015, bringing widespread benefits to tea farming communities and the environment. Each stop on the tour will feature a live performance by Grouplove -- who just released their second full-length album “SPREADING RUMOURS” (Canvasback Music/Atlantic), featuring the Top 5 hit single "Ways to Go” -- in addition to an on-campus “eco-village” where students can learn about sustainability while enjoying activities, giveaways and contests. Students who stops by the Rainforest Alliance’s eco-village tent could win a meet-and-greet with the band. Grouplove's Hannah Hooper will also be joining up with students who take the Rainforest Alliance pledge to "Follow the Frog" to collaborate on “Art for Activism” -- an original painting project based on the theme of sustainability.  Prior to joining Grouplove, Hooper was already an accomplished visual artist, having graduated from the Parsons School of Design and being a part of NYC’s Lower East Side art scene. As the band’s art director, she is responsible for creating all of Grouplove’s visual art, including album cover art, tour posters, stage design, and merchandise. “We are delighted to be teaming up with the Rainforest Alliance and REVERB to tour greener while encouraging college students to be more eco-minded at our shows,” said Hannah Hooper, co-lead singer and keyboardist of Grouplove. “Students are the leaders of tomorrow. Through the Campus Consciousness Tour we hope to inspire students to lead the way toward a more sustainable future.”The Rainforest Alliance empowers college students, and the professors who teach and guide them, with the information and tools they need to advance sustainability in the classroom, campus and beyond. Through providing teaching resources, speaking engagements and field trip experiences, the Rainforest Alliance is raising awareness on the importance of sustainable sourcing.
