Recreating Phish shows with an all-star cast of musicians is Reprise’s bread and butter. Located in New England, this band is making a name for themselves by performing Phish shows in their entirety, similar to the well-known band Dark Star Orchestra who does the same with the Grateful Dead. They decided to tackle a famous two drummer arrangement from the Starplex Amphitheatre in Dallas, TX that originally occurred on July 25, 1997 at the Brooklyn Bowl in Brooklyn, NY on November 7, 2025. Goose drummer Cotter Ellis sat in as the second drummer.

The first set began with Reprise taking the stage as a quartet, because the first set of the original show was played with only one drummer. Their line-up included guitarist Cal Kehoe, drummer Adrian Tramontano, keyboardist Scott Chasolen, and bassist Chris DeAngelis. They opened with “Beauty of My Dreams,” and then channeled the 1997 “Cow-funk” era of the Vermont-based quartet during “Wolfman’s Brother.” This led to a stellar transition into “Maze,” courtesy of Tramontano. The boys delivered an upbeat version that was driven by Kehoe and Chasolen.

The mood cooled during “Water in the Sky,” before ratcheting up during “Bathtub Gin.” An extended jam morphed into the reggae-inspired “Makisupa Policeman.” Kehoe uttered “Breakfast at the fog; Couple of lemondrops and some nugs” as the keyword, which was the same words uttered by Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio twenty-eight years ago. The set ended with a raging “AC/DC Bag” that had the crowd dancing with much delight.

The band returned after a quick break, and brought Ellis with them for set two. In the original show, drummer Bob Gullotti sat in for the duration of the second set. This set the stage for an intense “Chalk Dust Torture,” as Ellis packed a mean punch on the drums. The music flowed into a melodic “Taste.” This drum-heavy tune was complemented by the dual-percussion of Tramontano and Ellis.

Without stopping, the band cruised into “Ya Mar.” DeAngelis shined on vocals and delivered tasty bass slaps. The music rolled into a drum-and-keys sequence that famously occurred at the original show. Only the drummers and Chasolen were playing, while DeAngelis said “Scott and the Drummers” multiple times, in a similar vein to Anastasio introducing the original trio in 1997. Chasolen jammed out on the Hammond B3, which only elevated this special jam. He eventually dropped out, and both drummers remained.

The drum duet headed into the drum beat for “Ghost,” and the remaining members re-joined the party for an explosive version of this tune, which later appeared on Phish’s 1998 release, The Story of the Ghost. The set came to a face-melting conclusion with “Character Zero,” as the crowd sang along and soaked up the vibes. The band returned for an encore with “Theme from the Bottom,” and sent the fans home feeling satisfied after a great night of music and friends.
