On Friday, November 7th & 8th, Reprise will bring two nights of deep improvisation and musical celebration to Brooklyn Bowl, paying homage to one of the most storied moments in Phish history – the band’s Texas 1997 run.
The performance will recreate the energy and spirit of the two-night July ‘97 run that marked a defining chapter in Phish’s evolution – the birth of the “cow funk” era. Known for its thick grooves, extended jams, and fearless experimentation, the Texas run remains a sacred text for Phish fans, and Reprise will honor that legacy in full.
This special performance will also serve as a tribute to Bob Gullotti, the late jazz drummer and educator whose influence and artistry continue to inspire generations of musicians.
“For our second appearance at Brooklyn Bowl, we wanted to play something from the ‘97 era,” says Scott Chasolen, keyboardist for Reprise. “We can pay tribute to both these amazing shows and the incredible late drummer– it’s also a little unexpected and different, in the true spirit of Phish!”
Adding to the excitement, Cotter Ellis of Goose will join Reprise behind the kit, bringing his explosive energy, deep pocket, and intuitive musicianship to this one-of-a-kind tribute. Ellis will be joining the band to play the Bob Gullotti parts from the iconic Texas shows.
“We felt that Cotter, one of the most energetic and experimental drummers out there, would add a perfect layer to what we do out there,” says Chasolen.
“It’s an honor to be able to play with the Reprise dudes,” says Ellis. “I’ve been a fan of all of them individually for years and to be able to add my voice to this killing band is really exciting.”
Reprise – known for their detailed recreations and high-level improvisation — have earned a reputation for channeling Phish’s adventurous spirit while infusing their own personality into each performance. The band’s attention to tone, feel, and flow creates a live experience that resonates deeply with jam fans and newcomers alike.
Whether you were chasing tapes of the 7/25/97 Dallas and 7/26/97 Austin shows or discovering them for the first time, this night promises a journey through one of the most beloved eras of Phish– brought to life by one of the most exciting tribute acts on the scene today.
