Sophie Gault, one of Nashville’s fiercest up-and-coming Americana rockers, has joined forces with acclaimed producer and songwriter Gurf Morlix for a striking new take on his song “Is There Anyone Out There,” originally featured on his pandemic-era album Kiss of the Diamondback. Gault’s meditative rendition—now available on all streaming platforms—reimagines the song with warm, organic textures and a communal glow.

The single opens with a delicate metallic guitar pull before Gault’s voice unfurls the track’s hypnotic geography: “Waubaushene, to the western islands / Giant’s Tomb, to Go Home Bay.” Her phrasing draws listeners into waters both serene and mysterious, infusing Morlix’s writing with a newfound emotional breadth. While Morlix’s original version channeled the stark loneliness of lockdown life, Gault’s interpretation replaces isolation with bittersweet connection, buoyed by Morlix’s emphatic backing vocals that blend seamlessly with her higher register.

Reflecting on the collaboration, Gault said, “It’s magical how this one came together. I’ve known Gurf for a few years now, and he’s always been very supportive and encouraging to me as an artist and writer. He’s made some of the music that is now part of my own identity—how I play guitar, how I write. I’d been meaning to cover one of his songs, and on a flight home I listened to Kiss of the Diamondback. This was the last song on the album, and it put me in such a calm, meditative state. I knew immediately: that has to be the one.”

“Is There Anyone Out There” arrives just ahead of Gault’s forthcoming album UNHINGED, due in January via Torrez Music Group. Produced by Alex Torrez and David Dorn (Braxton Keith, Gabe Lee), with mixing and mastering by Grammy-winner Brandon Bell (Joni Mitchell, Brandi Carlile, Billy Strings), the record dives into the beautiful chaos of late nights, barroom electricity, and the confessions that emerge after last call. Swirling with grit, riffs, and raw storytelling, Gault continues to assert herself as one of Americana’s most compelling voices.

Her previous work has earned praise from Billboard, Holler, Saving Country Music, The Bluegrass Situation, and Rolling Stone. Onstage, she has shared bills with Zach Meadows, Sister Hazel, Jason Eady, Gabe Lee, and Margo Cilker, while becoming a regular presence across Nashville’s live circuit, including performances at the iconic Bluebird Café.

With her reflective new single, Gault underscores her signature blend of grit and grace, asking the eternal question with new depth: “Is there anyone out there?”
