Spafford delivered one of Domefest’s standout collaborations Friday night, welcoming Pigeons Playing Ping Pong guitarist Jeremy Schon to the stage during just the second song of the set.
Together, the musicians launched into a jammed-out version of “Peaches” by The Presidents of the United States of America, pairing Spafford’s exploratory improvisation with Schon’s funk-forward playing for an early-set surprise that quickly energized the crowd.
Following the sit-in, Spafford continued to stretch out throughout the remainder of the set. “Double Time,” “The Postman,” “Neutrino,” and “Motel 6” all surpassed the 14-minute mark, giving the band ample room to explore extended improvisational passages.
The shorter “Armageddon” closer provided a fitting exclamation point to a set that once again highlighted Spafford’s reputation as one of the jam scene’s most adventurous live acts.
