On Halloween night, Spafford turned The Guild Theatre into a comic-book crime scene, unveiling a “Villains” theme as each member arrived in villain-inspired costume and the band threaded notorious motifs into a three-hour improv journey. From the opening “Robotnik’s Theme” to a mid-show “Electric Taco Stand → Dis Go In 5? → Electric Taco Stand” loop and a late-game nod with “The Imperial March,” the quartet fused narrative winks with deep-pocket grooves.
The evening’s concept played out in both wardrobe and repertoire: “Robotnik’s Theme,” “Dr. Robotnik’s Boss Theme,” “Joker’s Theme,” and a punchy “X-Men ’97” interlude framed Spafford staples like “Double Time,” “Motel 6,” “Gotta Save Fred,” “Comfortable,” and “The Postman.”
