There’s something about Overview Effect that feels like stepping into a different world. Every sound from Squeaky Feet hits with intention — clean, futuristic, and alive. Released on October 10th, this nine-track album finds the Denver-based band pushing their progressive rock and jam sound into new territory. Across its nearly hour-long run, the band blends precision and freedom.
The band consists of Colin Shore (guitar, vocals), Greg King (guitar), Brian Keller (keys, synth, sax, vocals), Jimmy Finnegan (bass, vocals), and Kevin D’Angelo (drums, percussion). Each member contributes their own distinctive voice, creating a sound that’s both cohesive and expansive — a perfect foundation for what makes Overview Effect so compelling.
“Common Ground” hits immediately with a heavy guitar punch from King and Shore. Finnegan ripping the bass along with these lyrics, “You need to align your soul with your mind in time / The real common ground is there to be found / waiting to be defined,” cut through as the song builds, Keller’s keys weaving over D’Angelo’s steady drums to create a futuristic, ethereal vibe. By the time the jam opens fully, each band member steps forward, making the finale feel like you’ve truly found your own “common ground.”
The momentum continues with “Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware).” Keller’s synth peeks over the sharp guitars and D’Angelo’s tight drums, while Finnegan’s bass cuts through with a punch that immediately pulls you in. The energy builds seamlessly into the opening groove. The band chants the chorus — “Caveat emptor, buyer beware” — before diving into an intense closing jam that underscores the track’s ominous energy.
Then there’s “Tooth and Nail,” the album’s only full instrumental and, honestly, one of its most rewarding moments. It gives you a moment to breathe and absorb everything you’ve just heard. The track feels expansive and alive, each member adding something essential to the mix and turning it into a full-on celebration of their sound. It moves from softer sections to heavier rock bursts, showing just how dynamic Squeaky Feet can be.
With Overview Effect, Squeaky Feet prove they’re not sticking to a single blueprint, crafting an electrifying experience across the album. Make sure to catch them live this fall as they bring these new songs to the stage.
