Veteran troubadour Steve Poltz will add another milestone to a career built on songs, stories and countless nights on stages around the world when he makes his Grand Ole Opry debut on Tuesday, November 24, at 7 p.m. at Nashville’s historic Grand Ole Opry House.
“I’ve played a lot of strange and wonderful places in my life, from the Royal Albert Hall to Red Rocks, but somehow I’ve finally been invited to play the Grand Ole Opry. I’ve spent most of my life traveling around with my guitar, chasing songs, and occasionally wondering what town I’m in, so landing in that famous circle feels pretty darn special. I’m beyond thrilled, deeply honored, and just hoping nobody checks my credentials before showtime. I might just start camping outside the Opry right now because I’m so excited. I only wish my Mom and Dad were still alive. They’d be thrilled beyond belief.” says Steve Poltz.
The Opry debut arrives during another characteristically busy year for Poltz, who has spent much of 2026 on the road following the January release of his acclaimed 14th studio album, JoyRide, via Red House Records. The months ahead will find Poltz continuing his near-perpetual travels with headline dates, festival appearances and special performances throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe.
September alone takes Poltz from the 79th Original Ozark Folk Festival in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, to Texas, followed by an extensive run through Alberta and appearances at AmericanaFest in Nashville. October includes a return to San Francisco for Hardly Strictly Bluegrass before Poltz heads overseas for a run of shows in Denmark.
November brings another packed stretch beginning with the Moab Folk Festival, followed by headline dates throughout the Midwest and culminating with the November 24 Grand Ole Opry debut. Poltz will close out 2026 with December shows throughout New Mexico and Arizona.
Released January 30, JoyRide sees Poltz teaming with producer and multi-instrumentalist Dex Green at 3Sirens in East Nashville for a high-spirited, sharp-witted collection of 10 songs. The album includes “If It Bleeds, It Leads,” “Love a Little Bigger,” co-written with longtime friend Vince Herman of Leftover Salmon, and “Fixin’ Up,” co-written with Jim Lauderdale and Skip Black.
“Capturing me in a studio is like convincing a whirling dervish to stop spinning long enough to sign a bill into law,” says Poltz. “It’s chaos, caffeine, and accidental poetry—art colliding with microphones and commerce in a glorious mess. That’s how JoyRide happened. No seatbelts, no helmets. Just unsaturated, unadulterated art. Real humans making real noise in real time.”
Hailed by American Songwriter for “his unhinged live performances, incredible way with a comedic lyric, and ability to spin a ripping tale,” Poltz has spent more than three decades building a career that has never followed a predictable path. From his early days fronting underground favorites The Rugburns to a prolific solo career and collaborations with Jewel, Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle, The Wood Brothers, Andy Frasco and many others, Poltz has earned an international following through an irrepressible combination of songwriting, storytelling, improvisation and live performance.
And now, after thousands of shows around the world, Steve Poltz is headed to one of music’s most storied stages for the very first time.
