Sunday, June 21, Sweetwater hosts The Rock and Roll Playhouse playing the music of Grateful Dead for kids
Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, CA, has a busy early summer calendar ahead, with a handful of shows that should be especially appealing to Grateful Dead, jam, reggae, roots, and Bay Area music fans.
The Dead-related highlights begin Saturday, June 20, with The Anton Collection, led by renowned drummer Greg Anton. The new septet — featuring Angeline Saris, Mingo Lewis Jr., Stefanie Coyote, Jay Wilcox, Jake Temple, and Fletcher Neilson — will perform Anton’s catalogue of songs co-written with Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter.
The next morning, Sunday, June 21, Sweetwater hosts The Rock and Roll Playhouse playing the music of Grateful Dead for kids, along with the More Grateful Dads Father’s Day Weekend Bash. The early show starts at 11:30 a.m.
Another major Dead-connected night follows Thursday, June 25, with Ten Years After - The Songs Continue, celebrating the songbook of Bob Weir and Rob Wasserman performed on their original instruments. The fundraiser for Music Heals Int’l and Grateful Guitars will feature special guests Jackie Greene, Sam Grisman, and Jay Lane.
Reggae fans also have plenty to work with. Third World performs Wednesday, June 10, with special guest Kumar Fyah for a tribute to Stephen “Cat” Coore, with DJ Adam Twelve. Israel Vibration & Roots Radics return Thursday, June 18, with Reggae Angels.
The rest of the calendar includes rock, funk, Americana, bluegrass, open mic nights, tribute shows, community events, and a few free gatherings, keeping Sweetwater’s schedule full through early July.
Sweetwater Music Hall is located at 19 Corte Madera Avenue in Mill Valley, CA. The all-ages venue is wheelchair accessible. Doors open one hour prior to show time. For tickets, updates, membership, donations, and more information, visit sweetwatermusichall.org.
