The newly reopened, historic Cherry Lane Theatre has launched its brand-new live performance video series, Sound Check at Cherry Lane Theatre, debuting with a special set from Tame Impala. The premiere performance is available to watch now on A24’s YouTube channel.
Kevin Parker’s intimate Sound Check arrives on the heels of Tame Impala’s highly anticipated new album, Deadbeat, and features the first-ever live performance of the album’s opener, “My Old Ways.” Directed by filmmaker Sean Durkin (The Iron Claw, Martha Marcy May Marlene), the session also includes new tracks “Loser” and “Dracula.”
Produced in collaboration with A24, A24 Music, and Cherry Lane Theatre, the series features exclusive, one-night-only performances on the venue’s iconic West Village stage. Additional sessions are already in motion, following the initial first installment with Mark William Lewis — directed by Danica Kleinknecht and produced with support by Smuggler.
Purchased in 2023, the 166-seat Cherry Lane Theatre has undergone an extensive renovation. Upgrades include new seating, modern lighting and sound, a full film projection system, and a refreshed lobby — while retaining the venue’s historic architectural elements. A new onsite bar and restaurant, Wild Cherry, revives the building’s long-held tradition as a local dining destination. The space comes from James Beard Award–winning restaurateurs Lee Hanson and Riad Nasr of Frenchette, Le Rock, and Le Veau d’Or.
As New York City’s oldest Off-Broadway theatre, Cherry Lane has been a vital part of the city’s cultural fabric for over 100 years. Now under A24 ownership, the venue reopens in September 2025 with expanded programming that includes music, theatre, comedy, and film.
