In anticipation of their full-length album Chaos Companion, out September 24th, electro-prog band TAUK brings fans into their whimsical world with a cinematic video that captures their spirit for new track, "Make Your Move."

Directed by Sophia Conger and shot at the Brooklyn Bowl, the video opens with the band quietly sitting at a bar, before suddenly shifting into a vibrant and playful competition sequence. The video mirrors TAUK's signature instrumental sound, which begins delicately and expands into complex textures and beats, brilliantly blending the old school with the futuristic. The visuals in "Make Your Move" perfectly match this: a calm and unassuming beginning, which then bursts into a layered, intricate melody, shown with Nerf gun fights, Mario Kart-style tricycle races and more.
To accurately depict the essence of TAUK, director Conger explains, "We needed a stellar location–making Brooklyn Bowl a perfect fit–anamorphic lenses to give our video the maximum cinematic look, and tons of props, actions and bright costumes for our band." After two full days of shooting and playing around, the video closes in true TAUK fashion, with a live set full of palpable energy.
"An insider band secret is that we're each super competitive, whether it's basketball, Mario Kart, ping pong, none of us like to lose and hopefully you'll see a new side of us," the band reveals. "This video takes you on a magical journey where 1980's Miami Vice meets a perfectly assembled action-packed bro-cation. We were lucky enough to film this at one of our favorite NYC venues, which only helped us to take it to the next level."
The track, born years ago from a keyboard loop by Alric Carter, resurfaced in the throws of quarantine. Shuffling through unfinished ideas, voice memos, and old recordings, the band resuscitated the melody which provided a fresh canvas of exploration. "There’s a nice spacey intro that leads into a driving groove and it all becomes pretty anthemic," says guitarist Matt Jalbert. "We found a sweet spot of balance between natural instruments mixed with loops and electronic elements. Greg Ellis added the perfect percussion layers that really drove everything home and Max ZT was able to bring new life into the original loop by adding some amazing hammered dulcimer."
TAUK continues to captivate audiences around the U.S. Catch the band live like never before on the Chaos Companion Tour this fall. A full list of dates and corresponding support can be found on the band's website and below.
