The Barr Brothers return today with Let It Hiss (out now via Secret City Records), their long-awaited first studio album in nearly eight years.
Let It Hiss isn’t just a collection of ten vital new songs — it’s a document of transformation and an invitation to a place where the flaws aren’t edited out, they’re amplified. The result of a pivotal shift, it represents a pause for reflection, a reckoning with vulnerability, and a reconnection between two brothers — Brad and Andrew Barr — who’ve spent their entire lives making music side by side.
Let It Hiss was produced by Brad and Andrew, working primarily as a duo out of their Montreal studio, with mix engineer Jon Low (The National, Taylor Swift, Bon Iver).
In addition to Ariel Engle (La Force)’s contributions, the album also features Elizabeth Powell (Land Of Talk), Patrick Watson, and Jim James (My Morning Jacket).
The Barr Brothers are currently on the road with Mumford & Sons, performing at East Coast arenas including a homecoming show at Montreal’s Bell Centre. Andrew — The Barr Brothers’ drummer/singer/songwriter — has also been playing drums for Mumford & Sons on their recent Rushmere tour.
The band will launch their headline tour in support of Let It Hiss this coming February, including stops at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, The Sinclair in Boston, Thalia Hall in Chicago, and MTELUS in Montreal. Full dates below.
Since announcing the album in June, The Barr Brothers have shared a number of previews and music videos, including:
Formed by Brad and Andrew Barr, The Barr Brothers released their debut album in 2010 and have since earned three Félix Awards in Quebec, three JUNO Award nominations for Adult Alternative Album of the Year, and a Polaris Music Prize longlist placement.
They’re staples on NPR, SiriusXM, KCRW, and KEXP, with national TV appearances on The Late Show with David Letterman and CBS Saturday Morning. Their music has been featured in True Detective, Your Honor, Catfish, Rookie Blue, and more, earning praise from legends including Robert Plant, Bon Iver, David Crosby, and Bill Kreutzmann.
Brad and Andrew also co-wrote “Live That Way Forever” — featured in the film The Iron Claw (starring Jeremy Allen White) — alongside Richard Reed Perry and Little Scream.
When The Barr Brothers aren’t touring or performing in their beloved side project The Slip, Andrew has performed with Feist, Gracie Abrams, and Broken Social Scene, while Brad explored collaborations culminating in his 2022 solo album The Winter Mission.
