THE DEAD 70's SUNSHINE DAYDREAM ON THE GRASS
Bay Area Deadheads looking to stretch out on the grass, soak up some spring sunshine, and celebrate the most danceable era of the Grateful Dead have a prime afternoon on deck. On Saturday, April 18, The Dead 70’s return for a Mare Island Sunshine Daydream, bringing their all-star tribute to the golden age of live Dead shows for a family-friendly outdoor gathering that runs from 1 to 4:20 p.m.
Presented by Mr. Hat and FT, the event promises a laid-back but high-energy celebration of the Dead’s peak 1970s years, with the band reinterpreting one of the most beloved periods in the group’s live history. For fans who love the swing, soul, and open-road groove of the era, this one is built to move bodies and lift spirits.
The Dead 70’s are dedicated to recreating the electrifying experience of Grateful Dead shows in the 1970s, a period many listeners still regard as the band’s creative high-water mark. This latest Sunshine Daydream also adds a couple of exciting ingredients to the mix, with Elliott Peck stepping into the Donna role and Anna Elva joining as the dancing drummer, giving the afternoon an added spark.
The lineup features Mark Karan, Elliott Peck, Zach Jones, Steve Sofranko, Burt Lewis, and Anna Elva, assembling a seasoned cast of players with deep roots in the Bay Area jam community. The setting should make it all the sweeter: all ages, outdoors on Mare Island, with food trucks, wine, reserved tables, and even a face-paint station for kids, whose tickets are just $10.
Best of all, the music wraps in time for anyone looking to turn the day into a full-on Bay Area Deadhead weekend—grab some dinner, then head out for an evening stop at the Fox or the Fillmore and keep the celebration rolling.
