“We’ve always been interested in bands that could get people to really get lost in the escape of the music,” says Ben Suarez, bassist of the Colorado-based funk and soul band The Hip Snacks. “And we want to make sure we’re always steering towards something that gets you to move.”
With that ethos, and a whole lot of boogie-inducing performances, The Hip Snacks have steadily built an enthusiastic audience from their home crowds in Denver clear out to each coast.
Today, the sextet released their sophomore album, Out On A Limb, a whirlwind 10-song LP chock-full of fiery guitar solos, soothing keyboard nuances, and a roaring rhythm section, all supporting singer Kara Durante’s powerful and emotive voice.
Captured by Steve Avedis at Colorado Sound Studios, Out On A Limb is all about taking a leap, trying something new, and giving it a chance.
The impetus of the idea is part of the band’s origin story. Five years into their relationship, after deciding that she wanted to give singing an honest go, Durante performed with Suarez in front of an audience for the first time.
That leap together led Durante and Suarez to move to Denver and find four other band members who’d also been taking chances and chasing dreams, and as they say, the rest is history: The Hip Snacks are taking a clear, deserving step toward the national spotlight they deserve.
