The Hip Snacks Release Final Single, “If Only,” Ahead of Album Release
Colorado’s rising soul outfit The Hip Snacks continue to build momentum with the release of their latest single “If Only,” a deeply reflective and groove-driven track that captures both the band’s musical chemistry and emotional depth. Anchored in lived experience and brought to life through a dynamic, full-band sound, the single serves as a powerful preview of what’s to come on their forthcoming album.
“Some songs take forever to write. Some pop into your head fully formed, or well on their way,” says bassist Ben Suarez of the Colorado-based six-piece soul juggernaut, The Hip Snacks. “The chord progression came to me on a trip to Santa Fe, staring into those vast expanses at sunrise and sunset and seeing the longest and deepest shadows of my life. I remember feeling so accomplished that week but also wishing a lot of people from my past could be there with me. Friends who have overdosed from too much for too long, or some who snatched from this life for damn near no reason. People that were still alive but took another path than mine. I’ve accepted that they couldn’t be there, but the desire to have them around to share those moments still lingers.”
The band’s latest single, “If Only,” is a slow funk rocker backed by screaming organs and showstopping vocals from lead singer Kara Durante. Suarez adds, “The entire second verse was written in 10 minutes on the patio outside the studio. I remember we couldn’t quite find the groove until I turned to Dylan [French] one rehearsal and asked him to turn the groove into a Go-Go, DC’s signature sound, and then the rest of it fell into our laps.”
“If Only” is the final single from The Hip Snacks’ upcoming LP, Out On A Limb, due out on April 24th. The band’s second full-length album, and a clear step towards the national spotlight they deserve, Out On A Limb is all about taking that leap, trying something new, and giving it a chance.
The impetus of the idea is also part of the band’s origin story. Five years into their relationship, after deciding that she wanted to give singing an honest go, Durante performed with Suarez in front of an audience for the first time. That leap together led Durante and Suarez to move to Denver and find four other band members who’d also been taking chances and chasing dreams, and as they say, the rest is history. Before they knew it, The Hip Snacks were playing shows coast to coast and building a fanbase the old-fashioned way: by leaving it all on stage every night.
