THE MONTANA SESSIONS celebrates Season Six and the series’ 10th Anniversary beginning Friday, February 27th with a performance of acclaimed folk band The Last Revel performing “Simple Wheel” off their album Gone for Good.
New performances premiere every Friday beginning February 27th. Viewers can watch new sessions every Friday at the series’ YouTube and Instagram channels, with today’s performance by The Last Revel airing at 12pm PT.
The Emmy-winning live music series returns with The Last Revel, Abby Webster, Arwen Grace Baxter, Stephanie Quayle, Kyle Hunter, and Give It To ‘Em, FLORABELLE!
Produced by 4:08 Productions and made possible in part by the Big Sky Film Grant (administered by the Montana Department of Commerce), with additional support from The Greater Montana Foundation, the latest season continues the series’ tradition of pairing premier musicians with Montana’s sweeping natural landscapes.
Since its 2016 debut in collaboration with the Montana Film Office, The Montana Sessions has been screened at Oscar-qualifying film festivals, garnered millions of online views, aired on Montana PBS, and earned multiple Emmy Awards. To celebrate the recent wins and the launch of new seasons, the team has rolled out dedicated social media platforms featuring refreshed releases of earlier sessions alongside new behind-the-scenes content and artist interviews.
Season 6 opens with The Last Revel’s stunning performance of “Simple Wheel,” filmed in the lush rolling hills of L/A Ranch near Livingston as the moon rose above the mountains. The season also includes performances by singer-songwriters Abby Webster and Arwen Grace Baxter; country music phenoms Stephanie Quayle and Kyle Hunter; and superband Give It To ‘Em, FLORABELLE!.
Montana’s rich artistic community remains central to the series’ mission. Across Summer and Fall productions, the team filmed six artists in distinctive locations spanning four Montana cities, with each session underscoring the deep local support that continues to fuel the project.
Production for the new season began in July 2025 with a three-day summer shoot, including a golden-hour session with The Last Revel at L/A Ranch in Livingston. Livingston’s own Ryan Acker and Lee Henke were joined by Bozeman’s Ryan Krauss and Minneapolis-based Vinnie Donatelle to share three of the band’s songs. Ranch hosts Bob and Val Anderson welcomed the crew despite their busy haying season, with Val providing key pre-production insight that helped shape the shoot.
“Working with The Last Revel felt incredibly natural for The Montana Sessions,” shares Nic Davis, Founder and Creative Director of The Montana Sessions. “Their songwriting has this emotional weight and honesty that pairs beautifully with the landscapes here. There’s a depth to their harmonies and storytelling that really comes alive when you strip everything back and let the performance breathe.”
Director of photography, chief editor, and co-producer Jeff Dougherty adds, “It has been such a great journey traveling all over Montana to film these sessions. The varied landscapes, the dynamic weather, and the incredible musicians make this such a glass-filling experience as a cinematographer. Our first session this season, filmed with The Last Revel, is no exception. With wildfires to our south, thunderstorms to the west, and a quickly setting sun, we had a very narrow window to capture their performance, but with patience and plenty of rain covers, we managed to record my favorite session so far; ‘Simple Wheel.’”
“The longer we stood in that rancher’s field the quieter our world became,” reflects The Last Revel’s Ryan Acker. “Storms passed intermittently through the valley throughout the evening — a great reminder that sometimes you have to pause what you are doing and just watch the clouds roll by. Our experience filming with The Montana Sessions last summer was the perfect example of what actually makes the state of Montana so incredible. It’s not necessarily the places you find in travel guides or internet searches — it’s the random backroads, the valleys between peaks, and the quiet between storms that truly make up the greatest moments.”
A decade ago, Davis set out to combine the three things he loves most: film, music, and Montana. He never imagined it would grow into six seasons, three Emmys, and so many talented performances. “Season 6 feels like a milestone — not just because of the lineup, but because it represents ten years of chasing authenticity and creating something we truly believe in.”
