The Sullivan Sisters are celebrating the release of their first music video, “Devil’s Got a Hold On You,” following the success of their debut single on Dark Shadow Recording.
Built around a distinctive old-time melody on clawhammer banjo, “Devil’s Got a Hold On You” shares the perspective of a silenced woman who finds her voice within the song. The result is a haunting, roots-driven piece that leans into the group’s natural blend of old-time spirit, bluegrass fire, and youthful conviction.
“I wrote most of this song one night in my room over the winter last year when I had first started experimenting with my new Deering Vega Vintage Star clawhammer banjo,” says Luciya Sullivan. “I brought the song to Soraya when it was almost done and she helped finish it.”
The track and video feature The Sullivan Sisters’ touring band: Finn McGuinness on fiddle, Gabe Zinser on mandolin, and Sammy Mougin on bass.
The ensemble is currently working on their full-length recording with Dark Shadow and producer Stephen Mougin, and the band is excited to be on the road after their respective school years end. Fans can catch them this week at Silver Dollar City for the Bluegrass & BBQ Festival, with additional shows throughout the summer.
