Texas-via-France songwriter Theo Lawrence returns with new original “In My Prime,” a haunting rumination on hitting bottom during life’s brightest years. Penned and recorded in the same day with Colton Turner of The Mellows and rock ’n’ roll veteran Tjarko Jeen, it is one of the most spontaneous songs from Lawrence’s first year on Reprise Records—home to Billy Strings, Neil Young and Brandy Clark—and comes in advance of his debut album, out in early 2027.

The track arrives on the heels of a summer spent supporting Alison Krauss & Union Station on a coast-to-coast tour before making an appearance at Easy Eye Sound’s Fifth Annual Fish Fry at AmericanaFest earlier this month. It has been a breakout year for the Texas-via-France songwriter, who also made his Grand Ole Opry debut and national television debut on CBS Saturday Morning, performing album singles “Lonely Too Long” and “Dear Pillow”.

“In My Prime” follows “Today Is A Good Day”—which Lawrence co-wrote with one of his greatest heroes, Country Music Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame member “Whispering” Bill Anderson—along with “I Love You, Bartender,” recorded with acclaimed producer and multi-instrumentalist Chris Scruggs, whose credits include Sierra Ferrell, Marty Stuart and Loretta Lynn.

Lawrence’s 2026 accomplishments would be impressive for any country obsessive, but his story and background are what make them truly one-of-a-kind. Growing up in France, Lawrence was drawn to the music of classic American artists like Charlie Rich, Burt Bacharach, Carole King, Dan Penn and Lee Hazlewood. Now based in Austin, he blends those rich influences with his upbringing an ocean away to create a truly singular sound. Reverberating with “a sincerity you rarely hear today” (Western AF), the result is a world where French Riviera flourish meets the American motor lodge pool.

This weekend, Lawrence will make his Hardly Strictly Bluegrass debut in San Francisco, hitting the Arrow Stage at 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, before a performance at the historic Luckenbach Dancehall later this month. For more information, visit TheoLawrenceMusic.com.
