In a vast ocean of artists trying to find their sound, duo Towne’s new album Audacious - out tomorrow - is just that: a bold fusion of alternative pop with folk country undertones and a convicted vocal from Steevie Steeves that confidently proves they’ve found what some never will.
Equally as enticing is the lyric to each song, crafted in a way that presents a refreshing take on subject matter anyone can identify with. A glowing example is latest single, “Camouflage.”
“‘Camouflage’ was one of those songs that kind of fell out of the sky for us in the writing room,” said Steeves. “It started off with me sort of venting about how hard it can be to get noticed as an artist these days, especially as a female. At some point Jon (Decious, duo co-founder) had the idea to use the word ‘camouflage.’ That’s when the overall thought shifted, and I started writing about feeling invisible in an old relationship I was in. Turns out, we all had similar stories. Bonnie Baker (our co-writer) had this beautiful piano lick that fit the song perfectly. We knew we had something special.”
Other tracks on the album include lead single from the EP “Let Me Let You Go,” as well as “Avalanche” and upcoming focus track “Vegas.” Co-produced by Bonnie Baker and Ryan Peterson, the duo calls the making of the EP “a bit of a rollercoaster” but “open and honest - what we were shooting for from the start.”
Though both Steeves and Decious had a successful run at music independent of the other, their partnership began rather serendipitously when both got scholarships to Skip Ewing’s Horse and Writer songwriting camp in Wyoming.
“I’d written with a few guys back in Nashville that had encouraged me to apply for Skip’s writing seminar... I met Jon, and I liked him right off the bat,” said Steeves.
The crossed paths quickly progressed into a partnership driven by a powerful musical connection.
“We quickly realized we lived across the street from each other in Nashville. We began writing and performing together, and here we are,” said Decious.
