Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and guitarist Trey Hensley just released his brand-new single “Tucson,” available now on all digital and streaming platforms (listen HERE). The track is the latest offering from Hensley’s highly anticipated solo album, Can’t Outrun The Blues, set for release on March 6 via Pinecastle Records. The full-length project blends Bluegrass, Roots and Americana influences with Hensley’s unmistakable guitar-driven sound and includes an all-star lineup of collaborators.
“‘Tucson’ is a song that’s been kicking around for years – mostly as a guitar riff. I have played the intro and riff for a long time and have always thought of it as something reminiscent of an acoustic American-era Johnny Cash tune,” says Hensley. “I was sitting in a hotel in Canada a few weeks before starting the recording process for this album and this whole song/story spilled out in a matter of minutes. I’ve always loved westerns, murder ballads, and story songs…and I particularly like when songs paint a big part of the picture but still leave a portion to the imagination.”
He adds, “I am so proud of my new album Can’t Outrun the Blues, and I’m so excited for these songs to be out in the world! I’ve had this collection of tunes rattling around for several years now, and it’s a dream come true to work with legendary producer Brent Maher and a monstrous cast of musicians to bring them to life.”
Penned solely by Hensley, “Tucson” is a straight-ahead Bluegrass track propelled by a driving rhythm, fiery guitar breaks and lonesome, cinematic lyrics. The upbeat arrangement carries an outlaw love story at its core, unfolding with unexpected twists and a darker edge beneath its momentum. The song follows Hensley’s chart-topping title track “Can’t Outrun The Blues,” which reached the top spot on the Bluegrass radio charts, marking his first solo No. 1 on the Bluegrass Today Monthly Airplay Chart while also garnering significant airplay on SiriusXM.
With Can’t Outrun The Blues, Hensley’s artistry is on full display, penning or co-writing seven of the album’s ten tracks. Each song is built around his signature guitar work and commanding vocals, showcasing a range that moves effortlessly between high-energy, radio-ready Bluegrass and reflective, roots-driven storytelling. Produced by seven-time Grammy-winner Brent Maher (The Judds, Kenny Rogers, Merle Haggard), the album features standout moments including the anthemic “Going And Gone” with Molly Tuttle, a reimagined take on Neil Young’s “Unknown Legend” featuring harmony vocals from Vince Gill, and the Americana-leaning “One White Line At A Time” with Steve Wariner. The project closes with “Off To Sea,” an emotive Hensley-penned ballad that highlights his softer side.
A two-time reigning IBMA Guitar Player of the Year, Hensley first gained widespread acclaim as one half of the celebrated duo Rob Ickes & Trey Hensley, before establishing himself as a singular force across Bluegrass, Americana and Roots music. Hailed by Acoustic Guitar magazine as “Nashville’s hottest young player,” Hensley is also a 2025 Grammy-winner as part of Taj Mahal’s Swingin’ Live at the Church in Tulsa. Expanding his influence beyond the stage and studio, Hensley recently partnered with Taylor Guitars to release his signature instrument, the Trey Hensley Gold Label 510e, designed to showcase his defining tone through a deeper dreadnought body, premium tonewoods, V-Class bracing and his preferred Nickel Bronze strings. Hensley is attending The 2026 NAMM Show at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California, Jan. 21–23, to showcase his new signature guitar through various appearances and will be performing for the Taylor Guitars Hour: Live at The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus on Thursday, Jan. 22 from 1:00–1:45 p.m.
