Richmond-based folk outfit and 2022 FloydFest “On the Rise” winners Palmyra have announced the release of Sill and Glade Sessions, a trio of the group’s most intimate tunes recorded live in an idyllic Blue Ridge Mountain cabin. Today, RVA Magazine has shared the music video for “Presence” from the newly-released EP. All three tracks, “Medicine,” “Presence,” and “Nothing Sticks” are available on all digital streaming platforms today.

Sill and Glade Sessions came to life under the heat of the Shenandoah Valley sun following Palmyra's debut performance at Newport Folk Festival. The group’s bassist Mānoa Bell recalls, “Our creative energy was at its highest in the peak of that summer.” Having recently triumphed at FloydFest’s coveted “On the Rise” band competition, the trio exhibits a momentum that sees no sign of slowing down.

In the fall of 2022, Palmyra joined alternative rock titans Illiterate Light on a national tour. Now with a new set of tunes in-hand, the group is poised to reach the masses with their thoughtful, provocative songwriting and impassioned performance style.

Drenched in equal parts trepidation and hope, the three songs on Sill and Glade Sessions harmoniously span the full spectrum of human emotion. The opening track, “Nothing Sticks,” muses on the temporary nature of life, in the end trading angst and frustration for gratitude. “Medicine” is a heart-wrenching plea for guidance that brings to light the consequences of isolation, especially in the pandemic age. “Presence” makes a strong case for remaining in the here and now. As each song seamlessly dovetails into the next, the thematic layers take on a whole new meaning.

Bell adds, “The mountains brought us a quiet contemplation that allowed us to showcase our songwriting in a new and exciting way. Elevated by the warmth of our cabin, we hope these tunes encourage listeners to be kind to themselves and let those balled up feelings come and go.”
