Warren Haynes Releases Soaring Live Version of “Banks of the Deep End”

GRAMMY® Award-winning vocalist, songwriter, guitar legend, producer, and Gov't Mule frontman Warren Haynes has released a majestic live version of “Banks of the Deep End,” the first offering from his forthcoming Dreams & Songs symphonic album, available in the U.S. via Evil Teen Records. “Banks of the Deep End” was first featured on Gov’t Mule’s 2001 album, The Deep End, Volume 1, and has since become a fan-favorite among the Mule community.

The new orchestral arrangement was recorded in 2019 at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium in Haynes’ hometown of Asheville, when he debuted his one-of-a-kind Dreams & Songs symphonic show alongside the 64-piece Asheville Symphony Orchestra and his lineup of seasoned rock ‘n’ roll improvisers, including Oteil Burbridge on bass, John Medeski on organ and keys, Jeff Sipe on drums, and Greg Osby on saxophone. “‘Banks of the Deep End’ is one of the songs that we probably play more than any other,” shares Haynes. “Although it doesn’t vary as much on a nightly basis as some of the other tunes, it somehow takes on its own personality just based on the song itself and the lyric and uniqueness of the chord structure and the melody. Playing it with a symphony emphasizes all the dramatic and dynamic changes that song presents, and it’s wonderful hearing it in that light.”

Tonight (April 30th), the Warren Haynes Band will perform their Dreams & Songs Symphonic Experience with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, led by conductor Rich Daniels, at the Orpheum Theater for Haynes’s first of two special nights at the venue. The acclaimed show explores all aspects of Warren’s incredible catalog and career, including music from Gov’t Mule, the Allman Brothers Band, The Dead, Jerry Garcia, and his solo albums.

Then, tomorrow, May 1st, Haynes and his Gov’t Mule bandmates will headline the theater for the final night of their spring headlining tour. Limited tickets are still available – PRESS HERE for tonight’s WHB symphony show and PRESS HERE for tomorrow’s Gov’t Mule show. After a short break, Gov’t Mule will hit the road in July and August for a lengthy summer tour featuring a mix of headlining shows, co-headlining dates with longtime friend and blues-rock titan Joe Bonamassa, and festival appearances.
