Aside from his history with the Flecktones, bridging and bending the idea of genre and fusion music he produced his first film, “Throw Down Your Heart”, a journey into the true origins of the banjo in Africa. Everyone’s favorite former Texas gubernatorial candidate, political commentator and self-proclaimed “author, columnist, musician and beautician” Kinky Friedman is going bipolar, as in Kinky Friedman’s BiPolar Tour, which starts in New England on June 6 and continues through to July 1. As he has done on his recent “sojourns through America,” Kinky will be performing solo, dispensing the wisdom of the Jewish troubadour, and signing books.

Seminal American roots music band The Nighthawks have announced that their founding leader, Mark Wenner, has undergone successful heartbypass surgery and is expected to make a complete recovery. Because of the operation, Mark will stay off the road for approximately six weeks while he recovers, and the band has postponed the affected dates.

Today, Dark Star Orchestra announces the first round of artists to perform at The Dark Star Jubilee – a multi-day, multi-stage music festival happening August 31 – September 2 at Legend Valley in Thornville, Ohio.

This past Monday evening the band was named a winner of The Break Invitational (a showcase of N.J.'s top-unsigned acts sponsored and judged by The Bamboozle Festival team) and was awarded a slot on the Bamboozle festival's lineup (set date/time/location TBD).

The Expendables, California's highly respected rock-surf band, is set to release their first full-length acoustic studio album, Gone Soft on May 15th, 2012. Gone Soft will allow fans to experience the stripped down and unplugged version of The Expendables. The album successfully displays the band's technical music skills, taking their powerhouse rock songs and re-arranging them to highlight a softer side of fan-favorite classic songs.
