A new wave of reggae artists has emerged over the past decade, most notably outside the genre’s birthplace of Jamaica, and Gentleman’s Dub Club are leading the charge out of the UK.

Never have I felt more back at home in the cow town, country music-listening, tobacco-chewing, horse-riding, bar-fighting town I grew up in than at the Sturgill Simpson concert at the Ogden Theater in Denver last Friday night. It causes me to wonder: why have country music and psychedelic drug use not met before the visionary Strugill Simpson?

The 7^th annual California Roots Music and Arts Festival will take place at the historic Monterey County Fair and Event Center from May 27-29, 2016.  The top tier national festival is the premier gathering for the progressive U.S. Reggae and roots music movement, bringing the scene together over Memorial Day weekend in beautiful Monterey, CA.

The cult funk ensemble Brooklyn Funk Essentials has released its fifth studio album, Funk Ain’t Ova, worldwide today. The Black Women in Jazz & the Arts Awards Association announced today its 2016 Lady Jazz Master Award recipient, Melba Joyce. 
 

Acclaimed New Orleans-based vibraphonist and percussionist Mike Dillon is working on a new album of Elliott Smith songs entitled Functioning Broke. The collection is planned for release in Spring 2016. The first single "Half Right" is available today for download and streaming.
